Don’t take my word for it. Take Sark’s. Only recently, after finally giving up his offensive play calling duties to Clay Helton, he admitted it had been something of a revelation to spend time in defensive meetings and actually observe some defensive drills in practice.
Think about that for a minute. The head coach at one of the most storied football schools in America was all but admitting that he couldn’t have cared less about defense until, oh, about two weeks ago.
You picture the late John McKay hearing that and swallowing one of his favorite cigars.
Haden should have known this when he hired Sarkisian. The people in Washington could have told him. Some of Sark’s defensive breakdowns up there were legendary."
