Washington Vs Boise State - full game video, offensive recap

Here are the offensive plays that were called.

1st possession:
1st and 10: D. Washington, no gain
2nd and 10: Pass to D. Washington, fumble, recovered
3rd and 7: Pass to J. Mickens, Just enough for first down, but roughing the passer moves it forward 15 yards anyways.
1st and 10: D. Washington up the middle, 4 yards
2nd and 6: D. Washington to the left, 2 yards
3rd and 4: Pressured, pass to D. Washington, 2 yards
4th and 2: False Start, then didn’t go for it.

2nd Possession:
1st and 10: Browning rolls out right, pass to A. Pettis, 7 yards
2nd and 3: Over the middle, J. Perkins, 10 yards
1st and 10: D. Washington to the right, 1 yard
2nd and 9: KJCS comes in, Gaskin up the middle, 3 yards
3rd and 6: Browning back in, Ball over the middle for M. Hall, overthrown

3rd Possession:
1st and 10: Browning throws right, intended for Pettis, picked off

4th Possession:
1st and 10: pass right to Gaskin, -1 yard
2nd and 11: pass to D. Washington, ~12 yards, good for first down
1st and 10: D. Washington up the middle, 5 yards
2nd and 5: Mistimed snap, Gaskin tackled upon receiving ball, -4 yards
3rd and 9: Over the middle intended for Mickens, thrown behind him, incomplete

Halftime
5th possession:
1st and 10: Throw left , intended for Pettis, timing is off.
2nd and 10: Over the middle to Lenius, 12 yards
1st and 10: Pitch to D. Washington, -3 yards
2nd and 13: Pass to D. Washington, 5 yards
3rd and 8: Pass to D. Washington, ~ 3 yards, but offsides on Boise State

1st and 10: KJCS is in, McClatcher sweep left, 8 yards
2nd and 2: Browning back in, play action, pressured, thrown out of bounds
3rd and 2: Over the middle to J. Perkins, 7 yards
1st and 10: Coleman to the left, -2 yards
2nd and 12: Screen to McClatcher, no gain
3rd and 12: Over the middle to Lenius, 11 yards, the one where he didn’t plow across the 1st down line…

7th Possession:

3rd and 6: Play breaks down, Browning rolls right, avoids pressure, throws to pettis for 15 yard gain, but he had stepped out of bounds, so it doesn’t count

9th possession:
1st and 10: Pass to D. Washington, 3 yards
2nd and 7: Screen right to McClatcher, 2 yards
3rd and 5: Pass to the middle intended for Renfro, pass interference,
1st and 10: D. Washington to the left, 1 yard
2nd and 9: Jaydon Mickens Trick play, 5 yards
3rd and 4: Browning rolls right, throws it away

10th possession:
1st and 10: Pass to D. Washington, 19 yards
1st and 10: Deep pass intended for J. Perkins, incomplete (overthrown)

3rd and 10: Was going to be screen right to D. Washington, but Time out called by boise state
3rd and 10: Over the middle to Lenius, 12 yards
1st and 10: the 4 man rush blows by, D. Washington gets owned, Browning gets sacked
2nd and 15, over the middle to pettis, 16 yards
1st and 10: Screen right to Mickens, Would have been no gain, but Lenius hold brings it back 10 yards
1st and 20: 3 man rush destroys the o-line, sacked (James, Shelton, Tufunga get owned 1 on 1, Eldrenkamp and Brostek are blocking no one), last time out used
2nd and 28, 0:36 remains : Screen to D. Washington, 8 yards
3rd and 20 , 0:21 remains: Spiked
4th and 20: 46 yd field goal miss

    Agree, if you do decide to pass get it out quick and arch it high for a jump ball to Lenius.

    After rewatching the first half, some initial thoughts:

    UW on offense: it is clear that Boise knew our offense was limited. When they saw us make a decision, they jumped on it very quickly. This is part of why our screens got blown up so hard, once we committed to a play, defenders came flying in right away. Their defense did a great job keeping their eyes on Browning.

    UW on defense: Boise did a good job of two things. One, they did a good job of corralling our D-line. They didn't necessarily overpower them man-on-man, but they got them where they wanted them.

    It also seemed that in the first half, they ran plays that neutralized our D. If we ran a CB blitz, they might run a quick screen, or a run to the area vacated by the blitz. Many times, our guys would take the wrong assignment, leaving a hole or an undefended receiver from the backfield.

    Also very clear, Boise's backs had MUCH better vision than D. Washington. If there was a hole, they would find it. They made a killing out of containing the D-line and bouncing plays to a hole, typically on the side.

    Am I the only one who thought this was a terrible spot given by the ref?

    It was a bad spot, but he was still a foot or two short.

    Am I the only one who thought this was a terrible spot given by the ref?

    I thought it was a decent spot. He definitely didn't get the first down, might have been closer to it than the spot but Lenius blew it worse than the ref did I thought.

    But given that they had just given up a sack with a three man rush, it would be very risky
