Thoughts on the Game and Moving Forward

I said going into this year that I still wasn't 100% sure the lack of offense last year was based on play calling or just horrific QB play.

There is now no excuse, this is play calling, and it lies directly in the lap of Petersen.

About a year ago we got beat by Stanford because they dominated our offense with 6 or 7 guys in the box. The exact same thing happened against Boise State on Friday. We were dominated up front by a team showing 2 deep safeties almost every snap. If you can't run the ball with a 2 deep safety look you are shit. And in today's world of offense that is unacceptable. The reason we took no shots down field is because Browning sees two deep safeties and knows immediately that throwing down field on that look is no bueno. But as a play caller you must be able to get them out of that look to help your QB, you have to generate a run game somehow to be able to allow your QB to even have the chance to throw it downfield.

I am so happy and enthused with so much since Petersen has arrived. From recruiting, seeing the young talent on the field, strength and conditioning, special teams play, defense, not quitting for once, the culture he is trying to develop, even the off the field shit. But if Petersen doesn't either make a change with Smith or demand that things change I am afraid he will miss on a chance to get good soon.

The day that Gaskin beats out Washington can't come soon enough. For a guy that is so big and fast he just can't break tackles or see anything, he is a shit RB. There was a run in the fourth quarter in the redzone that was blocked very well for once. He had to break a tackle of a true sophmore safety to score a TD, imo. The safety came up in open space and fucking ankle tackled him for a one yard gain. He HAS to score on that play.

In the first half when shit wasn't going well he was the ONLY player sitting on the bench while the defense was playing, every other player on the team was up, and he was sitting there moping. His loser mentality and all that comes with it needs to get beat out as soon as possible.

I really like Petersen, I want him to be here for 10+ years and beat this shit out of other teams. I think he is a terrific fit in the University and the city. He is doing so much, so well, and I am still very enthused about the future. But he needs to take a long walk and decide what he wants from his offense. There are too many positives going on right now to be doomed by offense in a day and age where offense is so potent.

    Pretty solid take Coke.

I still believe Smiff was fucking stupid early on by not establishing the run, despite the deficiencies with Washington. I only saw half of the first qtr. though. If he sucks, play Gaskin, Joyner, the water boy...whoever. Bubble screen bullshit doesn't establish anything. It's a cheap way to get three yards.

Dennis DeYoung mentioned it in a rant once. Coaches, generally speaking, aren't genuises. I've met a few HS football coaches over the years. One seemed pretty sharp. That was it. They're always ex-jocks. The principal usually isn't going to hire a rocket scientist with advanced degrees who posts on message boards. Obviously college coaches are usually smarter and I'm not saying CP is an idiot, don't be a twister. Smith might be though.

The other thing is, most are loyal to a fault. We're seeing the results of that.

Coker says a lot of water is wet here (not that that is a bad thing) ...

However, his observation about Washington sitting on the sideline is a money comment. Tells you all you need to know. Gaskin will be starting by no later than the mid-season mark. Washington is a MASSIVE sell now.

Shorter: the season is over and beatings will continue until morale the offense improves.

Missed an obvious addition to the shorter version

If we're here to boo the kids, I want to throw mickens on the pile.

Not only did he puss out on that play getting lenius the hold, just get 5 yards and get ready for the next play; I also want to call his ass out on that fumbleruski play, that had a friggin convoy headed for the front left pylon (his favorite target), but instead of patiently sitting behind 3 OLs dude tried to run around them.

Not sure why mickens and washington are getting so much playing time

Pictures of Pete and Smith in compromising positions?

Mickens and Washington are fucking terrible. They've never been any good for more than a few plays here or there.

Neither one of them knows how to play football.

They are both a complete disgrace.

Mickens is so bad I hated john ross as a freshman because he was described as another mickens. It took half a season before i realized they had nothing in common other than skintone.

Perhaps a flatbed comparison would have helped.

Credit Mickens for blocking that punt but I watched it closely a few times and wonder if he really goes in there like man and not a pussy if he gets the whole ball and it bounces back to the endzone. There was another UW player right there for an easy recovery if ball goes backwards.

And do the fucking limp arm "I think I'm dying" move and get back on the field with 5 minutes, weak shit

I think the offense will execute better and will improve but it's tough to see a massive leap....until proven otherwise, the OL is pedestrian at best. I'm excited to see Gaskin more since he can make his own seams by making guys miss (like Sankey did) but the OL needs to improve in a hurry if they want to pull some upsets.
