The Stanford/BYU spat is not about some abstract concept of religion or academic freedom. When the Mormons had their pre-1978 racist policy toward black men in their priesthood, Stanford was the only school in the country to formally boycott playing BYU. There are people on both sides who will never agree to being in the same league.

Got ya. My pops grew up Mormon and though he was excommunicated from the church as a teenager and never went back he still had negative feelings towards UW because UW made some sort of (obviously less significant) stand against BYU. Those feelings run deep.

Never knew that about Stanford. Props to the Tree.
