I doubt it. Marshawn, his agents, and his management team had to see the script before shooting the film, so they knew what was in it. I don't think there is any spin to this one. The director probably did a really shitty job. It probably wasn't a good idea to hire a homie who probably directs local music videos to make a "real" (I'm using that word very loosely) film about your life.
For starters, I saw a clip of it and it was awful. Second, the director was a friend of his family and released the clips without Marshawn's permission. Marshawn was understandably pissed off. So it has nothing to do with squelching the truth as opposed to preventing the public from seeing a low-quality portrayal of him.
