Nick Saban wants Tate Martell, but posters here don't. Got it. Some of you posters seem to think Petersen's way of avoiding high maintenance guys is "the way." Mind you, Petersen hasn't won anything at UW, but I digress. There has been some wdwha with Eason because of this bullshit, although that has died down now that we are on plan D for QB's. I would be genuinely interested if wdwha would happen if a Reggie Williams type (cocky, brash, not exactly an OKG) went elsewhere.

I don't like helicopter parents or kids who are enamored with their rankings either, but it is what it is. If you avoid all of these players, you are going to miss out on some big time studs. There have been some great players at UW with some whacky parents. When it goes wrong, it makes for a good sob story (see Jake Heaps), but Jake Heaps didn't fail because of his parents. He failed because he sucked.

I don't think Martell has Sark in him. He acts like how most kids act these days. This is the me generation, and it's magnified because of social media. TBSers weren't stalking Twitter profiles back in the day, so these harsh opinions weren't formed. Maybe Martell will be a bust. He is small and most QB's are busts, that's just the nature of the beast. When I watched him play on tv last year, he was really good. Some of you see red when you think of Sark so you like to pretend he sucks. It's been going on for a few years. He doesn't. It's not a done deal, but he's developed into a 5 star QB prospect with some of the best college programs in the country after him.

    1. Who gaf what Nick Saban thinks about qbs?
    2. Please give me another example of a highly rated kid HH posters don't want because he's a drama queen? Martell is the only one I can think of.
    3. Give this act a rest. No one has sours grapes about Martell. No one thinks we shouldn't go after edgy players. But it's ridiculous to demand Pete go after every 5* just because the TBS brigade annoints someone a 5*.

Martel may prove to be the 2nd coming of Fran Tarkenton (hello Franny). But suggesting that Nick Saban's success at Alabama means he is an elite evaluator of QB talent does not line up with reality. Here's a list of QBs he's recruited in his time at Alabama.....

    1. Nick Fanuzzi - Transferred
    2. Star Jackson - Transferred
    3. AJ McCarron - 3 year starter - Currently on Bengals roster but has not played a single down.
    4. Phillip Sims - Transferred
    5. Blake Sims - 1 year starter
    6. Phillip Ely - Transferred
    7. Alec Morris - Current JR
    8. Cooper Bateman - Current SO
    9. Parker McLeod - Transferred
    10. David Cornwell - Current RS FR

Potential starting QB in 2015.....Jake Coker, a transfer from Florida State

Current Alabama QBs in the NFL.....AJ McCarron. And this includes players he inherited in 2007. Including those player he inherited (Greg McElroy), Alabama QBs since 2007 have played in a grand total of 2 NFL games, starting just 1 game.

In summary, Saban is a great college football coach. But Alabama is far from QB U, and Saban is far from an elite evaluator or developer of QBs.

You guys would all be creaming in your pants if Martell was going to UW.

Dude, he was committed to UW and no one gave a shit except TBS on doogman.
He was what, 14 when he committed? Of course nobody gave a fuck about a 14 year old committing because A) He's 14 and B) There was maybe a 10% chance the commitment would stick.

Christ. Let's focus on Nick Saban's list of QB's instead of the general point that a kid posting for attention on twitter has nothing to do with whether he is a good player or kid. I didn't know that posting on twitter had to do with how much talent a player has or how hard he works. I also didn't know that humble kids are always great football players. I didn't know that cocky assholes or kids with helicopter parents always suck.

Peterman's process is fine. It is what it is and it's nice having a coach with some conviction and thought process to his ways, especially after Sark. That said, it's different from other coaches. Urban Meyer takes guys that Peterman wouldn't touch and has won 3 titles.

Every single coach in college football has more busts at QB then successes, but still. I think I specifically noted that most QB prospects are busts and that's the nature of the beast. Let's see, coaches take one guy every year, sometimes even two, but only one guy plays. I wonder why most of Saban's QB's have been busts?

Saban's last four QB's. Parker (NFL), McElroy (NFL), McCarron (NFL), and Sims (Pretty damn good for a one year starter). And save the NFL bullshit. Who gives a shit how they do in the NFL? How is Kellen Moore doing in the league? It seems to me that Saban's QB's have done fine.

If Saban isn't good enough, what about Harbaugh? Kevin Sumlin is the black Sark, but his QB's have been pretty damn good dating back to Houston. Martell is going to be heavily recruited. Last I checked, UW wasn't in the position to turn down 5 star prospects. Give me the 5 star prospects, of course some will be busts, but to completely dismiss rankings is FS.
