Joel Dublanko - Latest highlight reel
There's been a couple of HH posts in the last month about Joel Dublanko. Maybe this highlight reel of his high school, USA team, track & gym workouts and 7on7 team will help answer questions/concerns that some people have about him...

Is he a legit 6'3"? I see him more as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 SDE than an MLB. Didn't seem like he had the read-recognition and explosiveness to shoot gaps often and his biggest strength is occupying blockers, shedding them, and then delivering a big hit which would is probably best suited as a 3-4 DE over the RT / TE. That was just from watching that highlight reel though.
Do you think Oregon State might offer?
1) He's clearly bigger, stronger, faster than the players he's playing against ... yet he doesn't appear to dominate the competition in really any of those aspects. He tends to stand-up blocks and waits to shed them instead of attacking and blowing them up.
2) HFNY pointed out that he seemed to lack read-recognition and I tend to agree.
3) What he did show a decent ability to do was deliver big hits and a reasonable motor if you look at it from the position that he SHOULD be playing not the position he IS playing
All in all, he seems like a guy that is playing out of position. Many good DE's started as HS RBs or LBs before outgrowing themselves and needing to transition to the line. While he doesn't necessarily look like he's got explosive quickness to him, I did see enough good things with his feet to think that there's at least something to work with. In the days of no scholarship limits, this is someone that you put on your roster, give 2-3 years to figure it out, and see if you can make him into a good player. But that was 30+ years ago. Now you're looking at a guy that is probably a lower half PAC offer for teams that can afford to take more of a higher risk/reward proposition or someone that probably fits in better playing in the Mountain West or WAC. Regardless, I don't see LB in his future ... it's as a DE.
This about sums it up for me.
I think I'm more interested in this guy, especially since it's not the best year for ILBs on the West Coast (and UCLA already nabbed two guys we wanted). He might even be a fit at the Rush / Husky position depending on how he develops from his JR to SR year:

I should have included the MAC-tion
Think of it like an employer contacting you after an interview and saying, "you have the job, except we're waiting to hear back from about 5 or 6 other better candidates first".
