Ichiro breaks record for most runs by a Japanese player in the history of baseball
In my never-ending search for finding anything CLOSE to fucking interesting in this year of "Great Baseball", I saw this gem today.
On their 1989 song "Hey Ladies," the Beastie Boys rap that they've "got more hits than Sadaharu Oh." Twenty-six years later and that reference works better with Ichiro. On Saturday, Ichiro came around to score on an eighth-inning home run by Adeiny Hechavarria. The run was the 1,310th of Ichiro's MLB career and the 1,968th of his professional career. That's good for one more than Oh, the all-time career runs record-holder in Nippon Professional Baseball.
Upon informing my 95 year old Uncle of this, he reminded me that he still hates "the Japs" because of Pearl Harbor.
