How is it ok for somebody to get a bigger tax refund than what they paid in taxes altogether?
Some one in another thread said credit for other federal taxes paid - including FICA, etc.
But, yes, less than zero taxes seems overboard.
Yes that chart is only federal income. They need to take into account social security and medicare. That being said, it's lame that the earned income credit gives people with a kid or two a $3,000 refund.
However, that's the system we are in created by both parties.
The other thing is people need to look at effective tax rates to show the whole picture. AZ posted it in the the other thread. It shows that the tax system isn't nearly as progressive or "punitive" as this chart implies.
But nice work death, as always, a day late and a dollar short.
