McCoy was expecting a big, new contract and at his age that was going to be risky. Any team would want Alonso - 3rd most tackles in the NFL his rookie year.
Chip is like Belichick. He will make smart, tough, calculated moves. Belichick has gotten rid of Pro Bowlers like Milloy, Seymour, Moss, Mankins, etc and marched right on.
Flip the expensive RB who seems to be slipping for a young, cheap Pro Bowl caliber LB. It seems smart to me. Chip suckered the Bills who will always be retarded.
Eagles have a history of this. They got rid of McNabb and Westbrook a few years ago and those ended up being good moves. It's a cutthroat biz - even more so than it was in the 80s.
Alonso is good but he also played behind Buffalo's all star defensive line. Plus he is coming off an ACL tear. I still think is a pretty good trade for Philly. McCoy is declining and really wasn't that great to begin with. For every big run he broke there were 3 more runs where he would dance in the backfield and take a 5 yard loss. He doesn't give you the tuff yards you need in the playoffs.

And potentially good news for Chris Polk.
