BSU Fall public scrimmage.

TailgaterTailgater Member Posts: 1,389
For those who are curious enough to attend, BSU is having their annual open practice of the Fall preseason this evening at 7:00 PM in Bronco Stadium. This is one of only two BSU practices open to the public each year....... the other being the Spring game. It's been announced that Coach Peterson plans to practice more and scrimmage less tonight due apparently to a lack of depth. I suspect they might be close to cancelling due to heavy smoke in the valley from forest fires in the mountains and resulting poor air quality.
Since we play these guys in a couple of weeks, I might mosey over to take a look....... or not(cough).

The local media hype this year on BSU is that the 2013 Broncos will be young and inexperienced, but more athletic and talented than any BSU roster anyone can recall in the past. Who knows what this means, but when BSU shocked Oregon at Eugene early in the 2008 season, Kellen Moore was an inexperienced RS freshman and it was claimed that the Broncos that year had the youngest roster in Division-1A football. I can't imagine that Peterson will bring that kind of youthful talent into Husky Stadium on August 31, but it shouldn't matter. Sark's Huskies can have no basis for overconfidence given the manner in which they finished last season with two losses including the bowl game loss to BSU.

I expect the Blount Punch to be usurped by the Sankey Shank. Game over.

The Blount Punch was as I recall not a game ender, but a postgame cocktail.

". . .young and inexperienced, but more athletic and talented. . .", where have I heard that before?
    :)

Good luck with the forest fire smoke.

    Not fun.

".....young and inexperienced, but more athletic....." blah blah blah is standard media hype that's especially in vogue when they're shut out of practices.

As for smoke, we hear much of it's coming over the mountain from fires threatening Hailey........ I hope that odor is not Demi Moore's bra burning.

Coming off a 4-9 record the year before, Jake Locker said the Huskies were overconfident going into the 2008 Oregon game. There is a precedent.

Everybody knows now to be prepared for BSU. They DONT Sneak up on people anymore. I'd expect Washington to be too fast on defense for BSU to do much offensively. The problem is UW has never made a statement offensively in the opening game. Sark isn't organized and his teams aren't prepared like Petersen's. hence, the game will come down to special teams. That or Washington just unloads on BSU and wins by 2-3 tds. Those are the two scenarios.

BSU has ZERO chance to win outright. None! However, Sloppy turnover Sark-Ball is the only way BSU wins, and that's a realistic scenario, . Bsu booting a field goal late because of the aforementioned is a real possibility. So those chest-pumping UW fans better smarten up.

I remember Polk said the same thing after BYU loss in 2010 after UW gone 5-7.

In Jake's defense he was the best player on the field, plus our OL was ready to rumble, the players had bought into Ed Donatell's new system, plus our new guys brought SPEED, SPEED, SPEED to the table.

In Jake's defense, I would not expect him to have been quoted as saying in 2008: "We Totally Suck!" That would have been completely against his character and besides, we said and thought it enough for him.
