JC vs. 5th year transfer

UW obviously has trouble with NQs out of high school who go the JC route (Zeke Turner was late-blooming full qualifier out of HS), so should the staff go after more 5th year guys from a school like EWU? Or are those schools so bad that they can't get into UW anyway?

UW was going after JC WRs, JC DEs, JC DBs, and maybe a JC OL or two. Why not grab a multi-year LT starter from a lower tier school to plug a hole at LT or RT while letting McGary and Matt James develop more? Shelton will be starting again at RT (or will slide over to LT) and Eldrenkamp could be a factor but we're awfully green at OT spots.

Or what about a strong side DE now that E. Hudson is gone? Dissly will probably start there but how about a 5th year SDE to provide competition and depth? A 5th year WR would be nice too.

JC? Sounds like a church school.

Because a multi-year FCS OL starter that isn't leaving to go Pro isn't worth much. I can see grabbing skill guys, but to project the trenches is a huge risk for a 1 year guy.

FCS guys don't have to wait until they have graduated ... They can transfer to FBS anytime.

Do whatever it takes to win. JC ... Graduated 5th year FBS players ... Whatever ...

Aren't there any mormon JCs where you guys can get some 25 year old 300 pound linemen?

BYU and Utah have been all over that for awhile (except 25 year old 300 pound Ben Olsen who went to UCLA and mostly sucked).

Contributing fifth year transfers are exceedingly rare. In football, anyway. If one falls into your lap, great. But relying on them isn't a strategy.
