It's not about whether UW should poach him or not ... one could question whether or not how great Adams is. Everybody sees the 475 yards and 7 TDs that he threw against UW last year. How many of those throws were tight throws that were a fraction of an inch away for being knocked down or even intercepted.
UW's not in a spot where they are going to compete for a conference title next year (most likely) and development of what is on the roster is more important.
To me, it's more of a statement of Oregon trying to put themselves in a position to win the division AND speaks to the lack of development that they've had at the QB position on their roster.
google "Bryan Bennett" and "Jake Rodrigues"
So if you don't have QBs in your program that are able to step up when a departed starter leaves, then explain to me again how I'm wrong that Oregon's struggled to develop a QB that is ready to take the ball and run with it?
If Rodrigues was worth a shit, he'd have stayed at Oregon and been in a position to compete for the job this coming year.
Mariota was expected to leave for the draft after last season. Bennett lost the QB competition to Mariota, and went somewhere he could play - which worked out for him, and he played in the Senior Bowl this year and is expected to get a shot at the NFL. Rodrigues was hoping to compete for a starting gig after Mariota left, but Mariota stayed a year longer than anyone expected and Rodrigues took longer to come back from injury than expected, so Rodrigues transferred to SDSU.
No matter what you think of Helfrich as a head coach, you know he is a good QB coach. Vernon Adams is perfect because he gives the guys in the program a year to mature as they are, for the most part, a year away.
The last time Oregon was screwed at the QB position, it was 2007 and we were playing our 5th string guy. Prior to that, I can't think of the last time that QB was a weakness. So I'm not super worried.
So what you are saying is Bennett is a non-factor because he's already graduated. And even though Rodrigues would have been in a position to compete for the job this year (which was more or less guaranteed after Mariota stayed in 2014), he chose instead to leave to compete for an easier job. That tells me that he's probably not that great.
And if you go by the logic of recruiting a QB each year, that tells me that there's 2 other QBs that need to be accounted for ... and clearly it doesn't look like either of them are in the picture since the plan is to turn it over to Adams for a year and then to the recruited QB out of this class.
The incoming freshmen, Waller, I think has a chance to be excellent. He has the size and athleticism of MM, he's just really raw right now. The QB they took last year, Mahalak, played QB for one year in HS (sat behind Jared Goff until his senior year) so who knows how good he is.
I think they need VA desperately to bridge Mariota to Waller. I don't think the two white kids will cut it at the level they are accustomed to. Sorry Hugh Millen, it's true.
What Ballsacked said - also, Mahalak tore his AC joint in his shoulder last year, so who knows whether he will recover. Shame because he was really good coming out of high school

You've never seen him play. TBSers are frequently wrong about who will be good, especially QB's.
