The article is tl;dr but the first part is interesting in the context of comparing Petermen to Strong and the rebuilding jobs they have. Sounds familiar down there

Read this earlier, agreed. The one that stood out is someone speculating that they think Strong doesn't think the talent is that good. I would bet Petersen would say the same in an honest situation.

Wanted to get that in before I headed to Alaska

I'll try to pick up the slack until you return.

Well...when you come into a new head job you have to say the talent is bad or not what you want. If you don't and say "the talent is here and we will win now." You are setting yourself up for failure.

It's always a rebuild job and we're just plugging away trying to turn this thing around.

I've been over at Shaggy all season and it really feels the same. Only difference was their attrition was extremely front loaded with guys they thought were starting/5stars they were waiting to see.

Rick said the talent is here and we will win now and then he did it

    Then he got fired

So what the fuck? Having Tui is better than having a functional retard at QB
    Yeah but still.

I saw Texas play live. In my opinion - the texas offense was much worse than UW. Worse QB. Worse OL. Maybe slightly better RB/WR.

I'm on the fence with Strong. There is a lot of negative energy around the Texas program with the boosters, etc.

I think some think it's a guarantee that Texas will eventually win big under Strong. He needs to make it happen pretty quickly.

Dude can flat out fucking coach.

It appears he is not a political fit and it will likely end up like the Dick Rod situation in Michigan.

That job is big money boosters who want to win, but also want a good ol' boy giving access, rubbing shoulders and making people feel important.

Watching them play Oregon in the gas station bowel the Longhorns were loaded with athletes on defense and just awful on offense. Their defense kind of kicked the shit out of the Ducks but their offense pretty much spotted Oregon three touchdowns.

Strong is the right guy for them to get their shit together, but he is a negro in a place where that isn't allowed, and he's not enough of a schmoozer. He'll be done in three year, but the next guy will win big and send the right Stoops out to pasture.

I think as soon as he gets an top 50 offense up and running he'll be successful. But that's no guarantee to happen anytime soon. His QB situation is 10x worse than UW (especially now that Kyler Murray reaffirmed for A&M and Harbaugh stole their prior committ), their OL is young, and their offensive scheme seemed kind of shitty and boring. They had a lot of recruiting momentum, but that could go pear shaped now. If it does and he turns in another mediocre season...problems.

Petersen got plungered by many of the same players in 2013. That team was talented. Outside of Miles and QB, the team this year was pretty good. Not great, but there was more than 8 win talent. The culture change was a bigger issue than talent imo.
Charlie has had the same cultural change problem at Texas. He totally cleaned house this season, having to boot a significant number of malcontents and bad actors from the team. Strong is a very good coach, did a great job getting Louisville turned around, but I think you hit the most salient point on this topic. He needs to get this one turned around fast or it's door.ass.out, and he's starting in a pretty deep hole. Year three was the magic one at Louisville, but he had Teddy Bridgewater slinging the ball. As others have pointed out, Texas is UW bad or worse at QB right now, we'll see how he handles that, and that I think will be the key to him surviving past year three.

Also, for 2014 UW, don't dismiss how bad Miley was and how much the offense missed the combination of ASJ, Sankey and Price. The 2014 team had great talent at spots, but was not deep and the offense was among the worst, functionally, I can remember. The 2014 team does not plunger Peterman's Broncos.
