Unions Part Deux

topdawgnctopdawgnc Member Posts: 7,838
WSJ had an editorial today on unions.

Fastest growing unions are in federal and state government.

Unions are declining in every other sector.

Overall unions are down to 11.4% of the population.

Do we really need the union protecting our federal government employees from being over worked?

I remember hearing/reading back in high school or college, or maybe I made it up, unions prevented America from transforming to a communist or heavy socialist slant. Gave the workers a voice and allowed a balance that prevented an uprising.

Unions served a purpose, they provided a voice for the working man. But, no longer needed. Laws have changed, automation has become more advanced ... just not needed.

We certainly don't need public sector unions ....

Some jobs they are very useful. They protect the worker and help keep more money in he middle class and blue collar workers. Government unions are another matter,, some are useful, some not so much.

Here's the thing, if businesses like Walmart paid theirs employees better, stores would not yet to unionize (see Costco, but then again, I don't see why a store would need a union either).

In a scenario like Boeing, unions are great,, otherwise the workers would have little benefits.

Unions have their purpose and they are slowly dying off because the change in manufacturing in our country. But those that say all unions are terrible are just being dumb.

Of course uniors are expanding in the public sector govt jobs. Nobody else still has high pay, cadillac insurance benefits, pensions and job security. Good jobs have two of those; REALLY good jobs have 3 of them. Government jobs have all four. You're damn right they are going to fight like hell to keep the status quo.

Unions help keep shit in line and prevent abuses by employers. Corporations can and will try to wring out every last penny of work from their employees while paying an absolute minimum for the labor. There is no low that most of them wouldn't stoop for in the name of the almighty buck. That fucking faggot Henry Ford used slave labor in Nazi Germany.

    Facts suck.

Who was in charge of Fordwerke when it used slave labor (it is now generally accepted that this occurred between 1941 and 1945)? By the time that slave labor was introduced, Fordwerke was clearly under the direct control of the Nazi government, though administered through the company headquarters in Cologne (albeit by Robert Schmidt). The meetings of the board of directors had already been suspended, and didn't resume until after the war. Although the American parent company desperately sought to retain control of their German assets, they failed to do so. Fordwerke became an instrument of the Nazi state. I certainly found no evidence that American management ever sanctioned the use of slave labor or that it even knew of the use of slave labor.

    Exploiter of slave labor?

Ironic coming from a duck fan

Are the Chinese being kept in internment camps and forced to make duck shirts before they expire from exhaustion or are put onto trains heading to Treblinka?

A very convenient period for them to "lose control" in hindsight.

Here's my union story.....I am forced to be in the union for my job so FYFMFE. I have no choice

I have never asked for one thing....I don't go to meetings...I dontt care about bargaining....our benefits are awesome so why rock the boat.

I put in paperwork in April for my job to be reclassified At the next round of negotiations (What I get paid is a joke...I look around and think WTF.) Anyways....I submitted the paperwork and was told "everything looks great."

Fast forward to last week and I haven't heard anything....they won't say they lost the paperwork but won't give me an answer about why they won't fight for me. They have never forgotten to take a half days pay every month For dues though. I was livid and am still not sorry about the emails I sent.

I get your employer doesn't value you as an employee and offers you shit benefits....that sucks. Well my union doesn't value me either and I pay them.

Which is it? Good benefits our bad?

By the way, it's still your choice to work for a union or not. This is a free country.

It's funny the same people the day unions are terrible, we need free market, yet say they absolutely have to work for a union.
