I also remember Kim saying ASJ looked like a "Man" when he came into fall camp close to 290. If anyone needed more proof that Sark and Ivan Lewis sucked, there it is. You have a guy projected to be a first round draft pick at TE, going into his money season at 290.

    Crisped, poont of clarification.

Also, the Lewis and Sark shit show sucked, but ASJ also deserves bashing for not taking care of himself.
Thanks for pointing out he played TE. You can put it on ASJ, but that stuff doesn't happen at good programs. A real coach would have noticed him ballooning up and wondered what the fuck was going on. ASJ was down to 266 by the Combine.
Got it. The player bears no responsibility. I forgot it's 2015, the great age of pussification and lack of personal responsibility.

A real coach would have fostered a culture in which the players would have jumped his shit for hurting the team by letting the cheeseburgers win. And if he showed up that out of shape, said coach would have benched his ass. But, that does not absolve the player of his responsibilities to himself and the team. Ultimately the player has to put in the time and effort to get better in the weight room and stay in top condition, and ASJ failed to do that. The selfish fuck waited until it mattered most to him and benefited the team the least. Defend him if you wish, but I disagree most vociferously.

You aren't getting it. Of course it's ASJ's fault. The bigger issue is we had a program that allowed that. If ASJ played at a great program, it would have never happened.

You're twisting and it's a bit naive to assume that a talented but lazy player would put the work in, regardless of who the coach is. Some don't, that's a simple fact. The difference is how they're dealt with by their teammates and coaches.

and this is where the concept of OKG's comes into play for forming a championship program.

Again, read what I've posted. We agree on this obvious point. Where we seem to disagree is whether or not ASJ should be held personally accountable regardless of the coaching staff. I'm an old fart who believes in personal accountability, and see ASJ's work ethic as damaging to himself and his teammates. He deserves to be called out on this.

Anyway, ASJ doesn't matter now. What matters now is the extent to which his actions (or inactions) reflect Sark's team culture which is in turn having an impact on Peterman's ability to turn this thing around in a reasonable amount of time. He's having do to a lot more house cleaning than I think he bargained for, which is adding to his task. This year could be interesting. I think most of us assume they will take another step back, but what if the S&C coach's impact starts to be seen, along with the type of player development Peterman's staff is known for? Maybe the step back is a soft one and they start stepping forward as the season progresses. It's probably too early to hope for that, but a doog can doog, can't he? Seriously though, I do think we're in trouble if we don't see the team improving as the season progresses. It's too early to tell, but without tangible improvement by year three, a Peterman couch better be for sale in time for Christmas 2016.

    Go Huskeyes!

If that's an absolute statement, I disagree. ASJ wouldn't have been booted from any of those programs. His lazy POS self was still one of the best TE in the country and I'd argue a better program would have found ways to use his fatass to their advantage and really put pressure on the D.

He might have skipped the bar 1 or 2 more nights a week with some actual veteran leadership, but ASJ is as talented as they come and would have a spot and played and excelled regardless.

He was really slow at 290. There wasn't a magical way to use him. He was fat and out of shape. He needed to lose at least 20, if not 30 pounds.

Slow enough to win the Mackey award. I know, I know it was a bullshit award (Amaro probably should have snagged it), but he was still good enough to get it in spite of his fat ass and Sark O. Fuck put his 6-7 ass up the seam every play and watch the rest of the O open up.
