The former Montana coaches might be the best coaches in the Pac 12. Oregon State and Utah are turning into good programs. It's early to say Oregon State is good, but they were really bad under Barry's brother-in-law.

The whole idea that any program can't do better than X coach is ridiculous. Remember when UK couldn't do better and then they got CAL? It's incredibly funny to watch the apathy that is imparted on the bball program vs what is expected in a football program completely forgetting that in bball a team can turn over in a year. A good class can take a dreck team and make them respectable, 2 years can be ncaa sweet 16 team. Yet at UW, we're okay with 15 years and a couple sweet 16's b/c our history is shit before romar.
The guy has had his run. It's time to let someone else take the reigns and see what they can do.
Gregg Marshall ... make him an offer he can't refuse.
This is the new "Hire Saban".
When Marshall moves up, it will be for a top 5 job in the country.
There are plenty of guys UW could potentially get that would be upgrades. Marshall isn't one of them.
You definitely aren't getting him by not making a run at him.
If I was him, I wouldn't take the UW job as well without a number of items built in.
But at the same time, if you're serious about basketball, he should be the first person you contact.
Of all the coaches at a mid-major level, or really any realistic coach that you could expect to potentially entice with the job, I'd be interested to see a list of what you think is realistic.
Last time I saw similar lists with football, we got Pat Hill types on the list. Would have been laughed off the boards for suggesting someone like Petersen.

We all thought Petersen wouldn't come but you had to take a shot at him. Northwest guy, has coached in the Pac, if he was ever going to move up UW was a good fit.
Marshall doesn't have those same roots and connections up here. And UW basketball doesn't have the allure that UW hoops does. I just can't see it happening. I'm fine with making him an offer, but you better have a great plan B in hand because that's very unlikely to work.

I was trying to say this the other day, but I came across like a bitch.
The regression the last few years is nauseating to think about.

We're not ... so we won't.
He's one of the top 5-10 coaches in the country IMO ...
You saying that you can't get him is right inline with the Butler Cabin line of "who else would you get better than Romar."
however schools who care more about basketball than football will want him (marshall) as well

It's time to find a better option.
Romar isn't going anywhere either. It would take three more years of missing the tournament for it to happen.
