Welcome to the Hardcore Husky Forums. Folks who are well-known in Cyberland and not that dumb.
Why the bowl game mattered
Since the Zona debacle it appeared a slight turn was being made on the field by the hapless huskies.
Even J Smith seemed to figure what his title was at UW. They dominated their last three opponents, yes even Arizona. A formidable running game seemed to be developing as well.
I won't even touch the QB position as I think everyone is crystal clear what a dumpster fire it is. Thanks Steve!!!
The reason the bowl game mattered is that it was a barometer on whether Pete and his staff were getting through to the team and showing mental growth. Under Sark's watch we saw his squads win a couple games get cocky and then get smashed because his team thought they were "special."
Was Pete going to instill a competitive attitude even if it was a meaningless game???? We were going to find out Friday night.
His team didn't compete on Friday, the game plan looked like it was drawn up by kids with crayons on their parents living room wall.
The whole thing sucked. The team tackled like it was doing a team walk through on pavement in front of the hotel bare foot. Shaq was a ghost, Feeeney was awful and Timu was Timu. OSU was one of the worst giving up sacks and started a true freshman QB.
The offense was an utter disaster.
This would make anyone wonder what the message Pete is sending to the team and what they are actually working toward. The extra practices were meaningless as usual, Miles was horrific and D Washington forgot how to run the ball. The whole team looked lost.
Now the athletic department wants people to cough up cash even earlier this year. Nice woody, real nice.
The season sucked, 10 wins was there for the taking and it didn't happen. I know it's just one year but it continued the trend of unenthusiastic football and wreaked of a passionless squad.
I want the roster flipped ASAP and see what Pete can get done with incredible resources.
Lastly, to leave Miles in the for the second half of the bowl game was yet another head scratcher to put on the list of head scratchers by Pete this year.
The bowl game proved Pete has LOTS of work to do and his reputation of detail, execution and offensive prowess did not bear fruit even with a mostly veteran squad.

OSU was putting 9 guys in the box regardless. The grown man knew we didnt have a qb on the roster.
No passing game=no running game=no 1st downs or points and vice-versa.
THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO ANALYZE. Get over it and move on. This game had nothing to do with Pete as a coach.
See Ryan Lindley and the Arizona Cardinals...nuff said dumbass. Is Arians suddenly a bad bad coach because he didnt insert Logan Thomas in the second half? FUCK NO! He didnt because Lindley and the defense gave him the best chance to win. An identical situation to Pete and the dawgs.
Now that ive laid it out, no more ignorant posts on the subject! Fuck me runnin!!!!!
No team that doesn't pass the ball has ever been able to run the ball, especially Georgia Tech. I used to get so pissed when Chip would throw the ball 55 times a game with Masoli too.
Also when you have a month to prepare for a game and your team couldn't give two shits at kickoff definitely has nothing to do with the coach. I used to coach with a guy that said; "You can be shitty, you can be fucking terrible, but there's no excuse to not play hard."
Keep blaming that guy that took you from Owen Twelve to 9 wins in four years though. You'll be blaming Obama twenty years from now too.
If Troy Williams is already hinting he is leaving, he sure as hell wasn't going to get in the game -- and we all know that Lindquist is only there for wildcat formations (with no pass option) and hail mary throws (fuck me)
It's not a phallus, but I'm no @SpoonieLuv
Tired of watching bad football...
No messaging to Browning, if anything Pete was telling miley he is still his guy.
Those that are bitching about sending guys home for the Holidays really need to take a walk and gain some perspective. Boise did the same thing in a bigger game and had success.
If there's one big reason for concern after the game it was what you mentioned about the culture being changed and players buying in. There were a handful of players that looked like they didn't want to be there ... John Ross being the most notable example to me. It's concerning ... but at the same time we're also taking a full class and I fully expect there to be guys that are going to be moving on.
I think you're a little misguided with the QB position for that game. Williams apparently has already shown his intentions it would appear. The Swede isn't really in the competition at this point and I would expect a position change in the future. The QB probably getting the 2nd most snaps during the bowl season was Magna Carta (wouldn't shock me if Williams was asked to be the scout team QB). Not really sure that there was a backup option in that game.
In the grand scheme of things, the work that needs to be done in this program won't be better or worse off because we won or lost the game. This game would be telling in a number of ways. Some of them positive. Some of them negative.
Edit: Finally read it because I have no life, but still keeping downvote for sig change.
People asked for a fresh change from Super Ron ... Gordon Gekko is a fitting image for a TCU MBA.
