I wonder

How many program leaders, be it the HC or the AD or the school Prez, actually do this (as opposed to just saying it):

"If you are not thinking about how to improve,'' Mullens said amid a sea of Oregon Ducks apparel inside Disneyland, "you will get lapped.''

Oregon AD

History doesn't mean shit. The only people who really fucking care about yesterday are the people fucking the dog today. It's like the class thing. Comes out of the mouths of the losers. Or fucktard ideas - like Iron Laws - that come out of the mouths of retards.

I'll bet Peterman constantly re-evaluates, even after success. So you know he is re-evaluating every fucking thing down to the tiniest detail of travel logistics.

Successful people never fucking rest and are never truly satisfied, and when they become satisfied, when they don't really give a shit anymore, then they know they have to leave because they know they're on their way to loser town. Witness Jimmy Johnson.

If this is really how Oregon runs their show, they're not going anywhere. This is why Helfrich will either continue to win or be let go.

Iron Law - the only Iron Law in success is keep working your fucking ass off or you get fucked in it.

The only people who believe oregon is leaving any time soon probably eats everything Kimmer was spewing about oregon sanctions. They are loaded with money, don't care about spending it, and they have appeal to kids. Oh yeah, and they win and win and win.

This is why sark needed to go, he was constantly looking to pat himself on the back and fill a chilly glass of patron.

exactly. constantly looking to pat himself on the back for smoke and mirrors results. playing Oregon "competitive". My ass. Chip had Sark right where he wanted him and wanted him to stay there much as I want him to stay at SC. The Kelly teams could have run the score into the 80s if he'd wanted to.

Helfrich just needs more time. Most guys who are promoted after a great coach suddenly leaves fall off in years 4-5. We are seeing it with Shaw now. Lambright, Coker, and Solich are other examples.

Oregon as a big time program certainly isn't going anywhere for a few more years. But lets see where Helfrich is in 2-3 years when the Kelly influence is completely gone and its 100% Helf's show.

And by the way hiring a championship coach is very difficult. Having high expectations doesn't necessarily mean you are going to higher a top flight coach or stay on top. Look at how much Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, Miami, UW, etc have fucked up in recent decades. Look at your Canes. They had a fucking amazing run for 20 years. They were historically probably the clear #1 program after 2002. Yet from 06-14 they've lost 4 games every year.

Oregon has a run that UW and many other programs have never had. But odds are Helfrich is going to trail off eventually. And as history shows, big time programs do not always make great hires. It's difficult and not an exact science. Highly unlikely there will be a Meyer to Ohio St, Harbaugh to Michigan or Pete to UW type hire there.

If we're going to be honest, Lambright fell off right away (7-4, 7-4)

Every juggernaut program looks unstoppable until the 1 fuck-up hire. Convenient that Oregon is immune to that.

I'm definitely not counting on an Oregon demise, but Alabama sucked before Saban, Florida sucks now. Same with Texas. It can happen to anyone.

Lambright truly should have been fired when Kenny Wheaton crossed the 50.
What is the 50? Some sort of river in Oregon?

I agree with almost every single thing you said, but the italicized caught my attention.

I don't think we know what Helfrich will or will not do. For all we know, he might be a ten-year guy who has the running. The only body of evidence we really have is this year, and this year's Oregon team is different from the Kelly iterations. A couple of things to consider that differentiate Helfrich from at least Coker:

    - Coker inherited a team that probably represents 100 pro bowl appearances and at least one, possibly 3, PF HOFamers/unprecedented amount of talent. Oregon is not even close. Helfrich had more to do with Oregon's success this year than Coker did Miami's in 2001. Apples and Oranges.

    - Helfrich's Oregon team is different than Kelly's. They depend less on tempo and zone read and are a much more physical offense. Moreover, Mariota has evolved under Helfrich's watch. He also had to replace a D coordinator and himself as O coordinator, and it appears he may have done that somewhat well. We'll see.

    - Helfrich has also had the opportunity to coach his team out of adversity. Oregon could have folded it in after the Arizona loss and after losing so many starters. But they didn't. Kelly didn't do that with a phone call from Philly. You have to give the HC credit for that.

    - Helfrich has recruited. Period. He got Mariota and he got Freeman, among others.

To be clear, I'm not saying this guy is heading to the cfb HOF. But his body of work thus far makes it far from clear that he's destined to shit the bed. Lambo was fucking up with one of the most talent-laden Husky squads I can remember.

Finally, this is where I think most Huskies confuse reality from what they want to happen: Oregon can now make a big-time hire. Make no mistake. The money is there, the name is there, the trophy case is there. There's no reason why they can't pull in a solid hire like Petersen if Helfrich needs to be dismissed. The article I pasted from in the OP mentioned that with added funds, they've been able to pay their Assn't HCs at the 15th percentile, whereas before they were at the 39th percentile. Money matters. That's a HUGE differentiator from my Canes. Miami's athletic department, particularly football, represents suction, not production. Their budget has historically lagged. Without Miami's access to premier talent within one zip code, they would be nowhere because they can't pay top dollar. They cannot do, for example, what Michigan just did. Someone has to want to do there because they know what they can do with the local talent, and that someone is almost always on their way to somewhere else.

Of course all programs go through cycles, and Oregon will come back down to earth, as early as next season. When I say they aren't going anywhere, I mean that as long as they are thinking along the lines of what I posted in the OP, they aren't going to disappear because that's how you stay competitive - never resting on your accomplishments and staying hungry. I do not think they'll be a bottom feeder again any time soon absent a nuclear bomb going off in the program. They're recruiting well and there has been a paradigm shift in the culture.

There was actually a really good article in the Register Guard talking about how Hefrich responded to the Arizona loss. I'm coming around. Looks like he might be able to coach after all
