Houston would be a step back.

One thing that got him on the wrong side of the AD and President at Texas Tech was his interest in every job ...

Getting fired without a job would be an even bigger step back. He might be getting out of dodge before it becomes readily apparent to his clueless employers that his system has failed and recruiting is collapsing.

Of course Leach has interest in leaving Pullman. If he doesn't improve the next two years, he's door.ass.out. 3-9 or 4-8 and he's probably gone after next year.
