Cactus is the best bowl the pac12 has next to rose bowl. Awesome venue, sunshine, january, no dome, no 11am kivkoff on a wednesday morning on channel 7 after the price is right, no 30° windburns in el paso, No mono sideline sod-patched surfaces with homo's pounding your tailgate and most of all, no more MWC opponents.
Tom Hansen set this conference back decades. Didnt want to play the ACC or SEC on the east coast. Said nobody would travel. Why would the Pac12 want east coast exposure? Time for Larry Scott to cut ties with our pathetic bowel model. No Sun, No Alamo unless uts a 4-5th place bowl.
Every conference sends their 2nd-3rd place teams to solid Jan 1 bowls. The Pac doesnt. Spread Hansen's ash on the 50yd line in el paso and cut ties. Time to wake up to modern football and be progressive about the pac12's image. The Cactus is a great start. The Rebirth of husky football starts in JANUARY, not in a foster chicken bowl.. thank you Lord!
Pac10 used to play in the citrus bowl. The good Cal team that almost took down the 91 Dawgs played in the citrus bowl vs Clemson and spanked the Tigers.
I've read the San Francisco (aka Foster Farms) Bowl has aspirations to become a higher quality matchup. Why wouldn't the SEC and their fans want to come out to San Francisco for a weekend instead of the same old bullshit in Orlando or Tampa every year.

Rose > Holiday > Cactus imo
San Diego is a great city, and the Holiday Bowl has better teams to play against than the Cactus Bowl. Otherwise, I agree.

But I am old school ... The Sun Bowl still holds value to me.
First bowl game I remember is Washington in the Aloha Bowl.
Holiday Bowl should pony up more cash and move up in the bowl hierarchy - I always loved going to that game
When they were scrapping the BCS and creating the College Football Playoffs, 7 bowls applied: Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Cotton, Peach and Holiday.
The committee was interested in the Holiday Bowl, but the main reason it was eliminated was because it's payout was nowhere near the others. In fact, they even asked the Peach Bowl to increase their payouts, since it was only ~$7m total. The Holiday Bowl is only $2.35m. For comparison, the Fiesta Bowl is $17m, and the Cactus is $3.3m.

Now it's the Foster Farms Bowl in Levi's Stadium, so no longer an issue.
