Fire a 9 win coach and hire a 5 win coach = Nebraska Math

But, he won't call our fans stupid

I've got to think Nebraksa boosters will be out in full force with pitchforks and torches tonight to surround the university president's house.

Nebraska is showing they don't care about winning. They were fed up with Pelini's antics so they replaced him with a mild, all around good guy.

This is kind of sad. I grew up watching N win consistently the right way with Osborne. They were always good for at least 9-2. 7-4 to them was a disaster. Granted the Kansas schools and Iowa St were horrible most years. I had a lot of respect for their program.

Now they clearly don't care about being a top ten team. They play fucking Rutgers and Illinois. None of this feels right.

I love it. I guess once and for all Riley will get to prove the "he does more with less" theory one way or the other. However shocking, this is the kind of hire that can actually prove genius.

The ebbs and flows of who is hot and who is not in the coaching world is a crazy thing. Riley with a fresh perspective can bring his quietly dirty style of play to a program that has no trouble getting the "beef".

    Could be interesting. Or not.

I don't remember a ton of old college football games outside of Washington, but I do vividly remember enjoying watching Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips (despite being insane) run all over defenses. Those were good times.

Lawrence Phillips knew the right way for his girlfriend. It's just that she didn't want to listen without being thrown down the stairs. Wouldn't it have been sad if Osborne abandoned Phillips in his time of need after being unfairly maligned for assaulting being the victim of an obviously out of control wretched female? Probably on PMS drugs!?!

That guy was pure class. #classyfanbase #lawrencephillipshurthisgirlfriendoutoflove

I was more talking recruiting/general NCAA violations. I remember him. They weren't perfect but better than Jokelahoma, Miami, FSU or SEC trash.

Nebraska fires Bo: 7 straight 9+ win seasons and an overall record of 67-27

Hires Riley: 93-80 overall with not bowl-eligible for 3 or the last 5 seasons

Good coaches get results no matter what yada yada yada, but I think there is some legitimacy to Riley doing "more with less".

Don't underestimate just how much OSU has to scrape the bottom of the barrel for talent. It's embarrassing to lose to OSU because they are big sky in a lot of areas. It's a shitty fucking gig, probably worse than wazzu.

The Nebraska AD is really putting his neck out with the hire, and I agree a place like Nebraska should have put a serious search on before pulling the trigger on a schlep like Riley, but LIPO.

That being said, on the surface this is a worse hire than Wilingham to U-Dub. Holee shit i'd be pissed if i was a classy corn shucking alum.

The recruiting rankings generally have them in the middle. He had more than enough talent to at least get shit tier bowl eligible every year.

The more I think about this, the more dumbfounded I am. This is fucking Nebraska man. Maybe I am living in the football past but places like Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC and Ohio State should never have to scrape the bottom of the shit barrel for a coach.

As I said, PatHadenFS has some serious comp. Fucking idiots. Both of them. Praise be to Allah.

I have a slightly higher opinion on Riley than the consensus in the thread but when I first saw the thread I honestly thought it was a joke. Riley is 61! How long is he going to be there and how much energy will he have to recruit and glad hand, etc. Hire doesn't make any sense.

Yep, and Dennis Erickson also added 3 more after taking over Riley's program. I know everyone mocks the "didn't have to deal with a ranked Oregon State" bullshit from tLPT, but Oregon state was really really bad before the RileyEricksonRiley days.

Still not a great hire. Riley was pretty bad this season and he'll be 62 next year. It is the Big10 though. Any fucktard can make a bowel in that conference.

Bo Pelini never beat a ranked Oregon St team.

Huh? Dumb hire, but lets not rewrite history here...everything about the Willingham hire was worse.

You know the hire sucks when you have to resort to, "Wait till you see the rest of the staff!" Riley will get a chance to prove himself, but it's bad hire.

I wonder if this opens up the door for pat hill to finally dominate the pac12 at oregon state?

I look at this as Riley maxing out on what he could accomplish in Corvallis and professionally knowing that he needed a new challenge.

Whether that is a good or bad thing for Nebraska, we'll know in about 3 years.

Is this supposed to be some amazing stat? He's coached at OSU for 14 years. If he was the average OSU coach you would expect 5/14 based on that tenure length. Should Nebraska be happy with someone who was above-average at OSU?

Somebody tell me how many 1-15 seasons the Chargers have had since joining the NFL.
