Who gives a shit what Bear Bryant did a long fucking time ago? I'm sure there are other good coaches who did not suspend a guy for DUI as well. It's an irrelevant article.
Joe Fucking Namath! Really? Who the fuck remembers Broadway Joe?
Seems to me ASJ's been publicly embarrassed, spent a night in jail, has a DUI conviction, took complete responsibility for his actions, is out a chunk of money, what else did I miss? He's done his time. . .move on. No suspension.
Of course, the writer is correct. Sark needs to stop being a flake and just say what, if any, team punishment there is. It's called Leadership, Sark.
Would a statement like this from any college coach work "I'm not going to punish the entire team for one players mistake and that's what suspending him would do. We are going to handle this matter internally. And believe me when we are through with player x he's going to wish he had just been suspended". Obviously the last line is bullshit but it plays to crowd.
If Sark wanted to save his career AND look tough, he would say ASJ is out for the bowl (assuming a bowl happens). At least this shows he cares more about winning, even if he rarely knows how to best go about doing that.

If I were Sark, I would have already gotten out in front of this thing by saying ASJ is practicing with the team and will miss the first quarter of the BSU game. And then I'd be done with it instead of letting it linger.

Yes.
This is the thing that bothers me most about Sark. He just doesn't seem to understand that he's the leader of the program. He's the point guy. People look to him for decisions and leadership and it's just not there. He waits and weighs public opinion before making decisions. He just doesn't have that charismatic, self-confident "it" factor that good leaders have.

This may sound like nit-picking... But for example, I don't like that Sark poses with his players in front of the trophy with a current player felling comfortable enough to put their arm around him. It denotes a lack of authority in that context, and it doesn't send the right signal to anyone viewing the pic. You wouldn't see that with Saban, Miles or even Jimmy Mora.
It sends the message that the coach is buddy-buddy and a bit of a people pleaser and a puss.
Now, it's nit-picking in the sense that if we were going 10-3 every year, I wouldn't care how they posed for pics. But it stands out in view of 7-6.

I think it is nit picking. I don't like Sark but I don't mind this. I'm sure you have pics of Carroll doing that with players even now with the Seahawks.
I do agree with you that not making a decision on ASJ falls on him. He should make a decision on ASJ stick with it, so the team can move on from it. Answer all the questions now and get focused on beating Boise.
Anyways all this is a mute point, the season is already over.

That was my point when I started this thread. Sark does not command respect. He is the players buddy

Very much agree. Sark needs to knock off the big brother act and start being a figure that commands respect. These kids wouldn't be dancing around and all smiles while getting drilled if they "feared" and respected the HC a bit.
He's trying to be cute and keep BSU guessing as to whether ASJ will play. A good coach wouldn't give a shit if BSU knew that ASJ was playing because it wouldn't matter in the outcome.

Our own program's history tells us that it works. You just need everyone on board.
