Tim DeRuyter, Fresno St HC should be a candidate to replace Sark

Former DC with a very good track record as a DC at multiple schools.....takes Fresno from 4 wins to 9 wins in one year. Was 7-1 in conference.

Tuff Pat Hill in his 15 years won 6 conference games 7 times. Never won 7.

Good find I love how he took over shitty defenses and immediately improved them. I'm not talking small improvement either like he had Air Force as a top 10 defense in the nation.

I really wanted Anderson out of Utah State and was bummed he was snatched up.

Doogs don't understand we want Mora but we aren't fixated on just Mora. We want a defensive minded coach who has a nice track record.

Deruyter is surely a guy to keep an eye on. He has a very good track record and grew up on the West coast.

I really liked Gary Andersen as well. Utah State went 11-2 last year, and lost those two games by two and three points. In Sark's opinion, they were undefeated. Only worry I had with him was he has coached his entire career in the state of Utah.

Mora would be another great candidate. I'm not as high on him as some on this board. It bothers me that so many of his defenses have sucked, and he is a defensive guy. That said, he is a perfect fit for UW, and would bring back tough football.

Bobby Petrino would be a nice hire as well, but I doubt the PC people at UW would allow him to become coach.

First, this is not a pro Sark post.

Second, anybody who wanted Pat Hill up here was an idiot.

Getting blown out by a 6-6 SMU team in the bowl game makes want to take a wait & see attitude.

Does he have any connection to fleens? If not, I dont want him.

Who said anything about Pat Hill? That would have been a Tyrone 2.0 hire.

If Deruyter has another great year this year we should snatch him up.

Gary Patterson just went 7-6 so maybe he can be snatched up now. Ultimately if you want to steal a top tier coach you have to pay him well. It's how babs stole Slick Rick.

The original post was comparing his success to Pat Hill, whose name was linked to this job, and some posters from the site I am no longer allowed to frequent thought it may be a good idea.

But you have me confused. In one thread you say Wilcox was good at Boise St because he only had to get up for one of two games per year. Yet you give CP credit for being a great head coach playing the same exact schedule. Move Boise St to the Pac 12 and I think people may have a different opinion of CP in 5 years.

I am very cautious of these guys. Both Patterson and Whittingham were very hot names, yet they both have struggled (especially vs. their own results playing weak schedules) since they have moved to bigger conferences.

DeRuyter's played a very weak schedule, and as I said before got blasted by a below average SMU team in their bowl.

Personally, I need to see more.

Is he willing to play anyone, anytime, anywhere?

It's called the eye test. Peterson, Patterson have good traits of a good head coach. This DeRuyter guy has a nice background as well as Anderson did.

For those doogs like Road Dawg who still doubt Mora were too young to remember how everyone mocked USC for hiring Carroll. Mora has the traits of a good college football coach.

I don't want to turn this into a Mora analysis because I would love to have him as our coach. I said I think him or Petrino would be awesome hires. However, Mora when he was DB coach for the Hawks was terrible, and the DB's sucked. They were close to last in the league in pass defense. The defense sucked when he was head coach. Last year, he had a very average defense at UCLA.

I love Mora's energy, his recruiting (Great OL haul last year, great close to 2012), and the style of play he brought to UCLA. I also love his passion for UW and think he is a great fit. I just don't think all that much of him as a defensive mastermind. He's sniffing Carroll's jock when it comes to putting together a D.

In 2007 their secondary improved greatly from 2006 then in 2008 when all of Ruskell's failure of moves caught up to the franchise the whole team suffered. Same with 2009.

Carroll was terrible first time around as a head coach too. Guess he won't work out at USC either....

I didn't have an opinion on Carroll getting hired at USC because at the time, I didn't give a shit. I'm sure you predicted great things back in 2001. Using the Carroll example is really fucking stupid. Dave Wandstett and Al Groh are also defensive coaches from the NFL and they didn't do all that well in college. Don't twist this (you seem to be good at this) to me saying Mora is Wandstett or Groh. If I had to guess, he is better than those guys and a couple notches below Carroll (99% of coaches are).

A couple of notches below the greatest coach of our generation I would take.
