This F’n organization has been absolutely living off the mid 90’s, playing the fanbase like a fiddle, if you haven’t figured this out in the last two decades than you are part of the problem. The hype train of old players, and coaches from that era that * almost* reached the ALCS…fyfmfe

The M’s aren’t in the business of winning(shocker). This organization absolutely should LEAVE, unless you don’t care and just want to watch baseball, and see 100yr old Jay Buehner wheeled out drooling in a golf cart, maybe Lou will throw out first pitch?

Sorry @chuck I walked away a long tim ago, 2004, but I still get triggered, atleast UW placates us with a big season every once in awhile

I just don't get that worked up. I'm happier and hopeful when they're winning. It's more fun. But it's more like a diversion for me. A hobby. I'm still interested when they suck.

This "part of the problem" shit is just that. Nonsense. I don't contribute to them or it in any meaningful way.

If them leaving is the only solution, what is the problem that it solves? Would a better team move in? Just better off without? How so?

The Ms are a profitable business with a great venue and entertain a shit ton of people for affordable prices. What problem are they creating that would be solved by them moving?

I agree with most of what you're saying, but I wouldn't say its affordable entertainment in-person. You pay a premium to watch mediocrity.

It seems like going to a game isn't much more than a movie and dinner or even a good dinner. Cheaper than a round of golf.

But the thing is that I'm really not a dedicated Ms fan. I quit watching or paying any attention for at least 10 years. I started watching late un 2021 and they've been an interesting story to follow since then. If/when they fully botch what they almost built and the homegrown guys drift off I'll probably drift off again too.

For now I'm glad to have a sports team to be interested in outside of UW football. I pretty strongly dislike every other MLB team for one reason or another. I can't get that into NFL. I hate basketball. I need something.

Maybe I could switch to Kansas City. I grew up a Royals fan.

    @chuck

I've been to two Mariners games in the past twenty years. But as I recall from about four years ago, the tickets were $45 each ($90), it was $30 to park, and concessions for two was about $50. I remember doing a double take when I ordered a diet soda and it was $10 or $12. So, $170 for an evening of mediocre baseball was not worth it.

They're a sports team. People don't like hearing about being a profitable business. They're supposed to try to win games. The fans aren't shareholders in any profit other than wins.

Only team in MLB to never even make the World Series.

  • chuckchuck Member, Swaye's Wigwam Posts: 11,491 Swaye's Wigwam

Well, I agree that wouldn't be worth it to me either. I don't go to many games and that's about what it costs me. An area resident can go to games for about $20 and bus fare though.

Also, I'm not saying you, bleached ass or anyone else should like them or go to games or support them though. I was only explaining why I keep paying attention and why the statements that they should move don't make sense. They aren't accomplishing anything, but they still serve a purpose. The butts in the seats and fan loyalty prove it.

I get your perspective @chuck , the fans who now engage are there mostly for entertainment, people watching, star player watching, beer garden, it’s pro sports after all.

Competitive, winning baseball is not important to alot of people but going to a MLB game is, I get it

I just need a reason to turn the TV on in the evening. Without it I'll smoke myself into a coma and spend all evening on here.
