It's a story as old as time

People need to stop going, put that money towards our Dwags!! WOOF
-
I like how he uses the word "negativity" as a way of sniveling and dismissing the fan opinion as wrong. Dude, it's the whole city and fan base and entire MLB shaking their heads.
-
Similar to guys like Todd Turner at UW
Losers
-
^^^
Dipoto is a loser. The owner is a loser. The entire organization is a bunch of mediocre losers.
-
You guys are ignoring the proven fact that they will get hot in August, make it close, and barely miss the playoffs with 84-86 wins. It'll be more Ms glory. What are you negative asses going to say then?
-
Dipoto can’t turn water into wine. His name isn’t on the checks…like everything else in life, follow the money, or lack thereof.
-
-
Mrs. Dipoto, is that you?
-
Brandon Gomes is the best GM in the game. His acumen for discovering, signing and developing talent is unmatched, He has found “diamonds in the rough” such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Blake Snell. Gomes is a brilliant decision-maker. His best decision: working for a consortium of really rich people who will spend as much money as it takes to win…
(End snark)…Dipoto’s hands are tied, and he gets paid quite well to be the face, and take the heat, for ownership’s “investment”…
-
-
He may be doing the best he can, but I resent the fact that he regularly blames the fans for being negative or not supportive enough. He knows what's going on, he knows his owner is cheap, we all know it. Don't lie to our faces about it and tell us to be happy and just bend over to get driven home without a car.
-
I recently realized that Dipoto is a dead ringer for a guy I've dealt with in a business arrangement who I ultimately came to strongly dislike. It isn't helping his cause with me.
He had moves available to him that he didn't make that would've brought in better players than Solano, Tellez and Polanco. Granted Polo is hitting the ball and may turn out to be a decent DH, but he's a terrible player overall who is physically incapable of playing the position they signed him to play.
-
How many of Dipoto's position players he's drafted have turned out worth a shit? None of them can hit. That's on him. Don't need to have the highest payroll in the league to draft guys who can hit the ball, and then get them developed to reach the show.
-
I’m not a “Superfan” of Dip, but to address the draft, it is a fucking crap shoot. When I was in the business, the goal was three future big leaguers per draft. Kyle Lewis (RIP) and the Dumper, off the top of my head. He has gone pitching heavy with success. Hitting is an issue and will continue to be until Stanton is gone and they overpay. Am I becoming the Dick Baird of this bored?!?!
-
Nah you seem too sober most of the time to be Baird.
Your points are all valid. I think that Dip has failed pretty miserably with his off-season offensive acquisitions though. Garver, Polanco, Kolten Wong and AJ Pollock for example. Those have been the impact bats. The last really good trade I can remember was for Winker and Suarez.
It's early but I see Tellez getting dfa'd at some point (soon), Solano getting few at bats and making virtually zero impact, and Polanco struggling with his health all season. Money was tight, but there was some and I don't think he spent it well.
I think there's ample evidence suggesting that Dan Wilson wasn't the best choice for manager too.
Dipoto has been really good at the task he started with. He got them close. I don't think he gets another year if they miss the playoffs again though. The window is closing soon.
-
Yes the Dodgers and Yankees spend billions but haven't there been mid level spenders that win occasionally or at least make the playoffs?
-
We are still waiting for Gillick to get Lou that bat…
-
YOU LOVE THESE KIDS!!!!!!
-
I'm 95% sure the selection of Dan Wilson was a cheap attempt to tap into the old "You gotta love these guys!" routine from 30 years ago as a way to placate the dumb public.
-
Yeah, Dan seems like a nice guy. Maybe he's got good clubhouse vibes. But, firing Servais (probably needed to happen) and immediately promoting a guy with zero managing experience and not even calling him interim? It made no sense then, and no sense now.
-
This F’n organization has been absolutely living off the mid 90’s, playing the fanbase like a fiddle, if you haven’t figured this out in the last two decades than you are part of the problem. The hype train of old players, and coaches from that era that * almost* reached the ALCS…fyfmfe
The M’s aren’t in the business of winning(shocker). This organization absolutely should LEAVE, unless you don’t care and just want to watch baseball, and see 100yr old Jay Buehner wheeled out drooling in a golf cart, maybe Lou will throw out first pitch?
Sorry @chuck I walked away a long tim ago, 2004, but I still get triggered, atleast UW placates us with a big season every once in awhile
-
I just don't get that worked up. I'm happier and hopeful when they're winning. It's more fun. But it's more like a diversion for me. A hobby. I'm still interested when they suck.
This "part of the problem" shit is just that. Nonsense. I don't contribute to them or it in any meaningful way.
If them leaving is the only solution, what is the problem that it solves? Would a better team move in? Just better off without? How so?
The Ms are a profitable business with a great venue and entertain a shit ton of people for affordable prices. What problem are they creating that would be solved by them moving?
-
I agree with most of what you're saying, but I wouldn't say its affordable entertainment in-person. You pay a premium to watch mediocrity.
-
It seems like going to a game isn't much more than a movie and dinner or even a good dinner. Cheaper than a round of golf.
But the thing is that I'm really not a dedicated Ms fan. I quit watching or paying any attention for at least 10 years. I started watching late un 2021 and they've been an interesting story to follow since then. If/when they fully botch what they almost built and the homegrown guys drift off I'll probably drift off again too.
For now I'm glad to have a sports team to be interested in outside of UW football. I pretty strongly dislike every other MLB team for one reason or another. I can't get that into NFL. I hate basketball. I need something.
Maybe I could switch to Kansas City. I grew up a Royals fan.
-
I've been to two Mariners games in the past twenty years. But as I recall from about four years ago, the tickets were $45 each ($90), it was $30 to park, and concessions for two was about $50. I remember doing a double take when I ordered a diet soda and it was $10 or $12. So, $170 for an evening of mediocre baseball was not worth it.
-
They're a sports team. People don't like hearing about being a profitable business. They're supposed to try to win games. The fans aren't shareholders in any profit other than wins.
Only team in MLB to never even make the World Series.
-
Well, I agree that wouldn't be worth it to me either. I don't go to many games and that's about what it costs me. An area resident can go to games for about $20 and bus fare though.
Also, I'm not saying you, bleached ass or anyone else should like them or go to games or support them though. I was only explaining why I keep paying attention and why the statements that they should move don't make sense. They aren't accomplishing anything, but they still serve a purpose. The butts in the seats and fan loyalty prove it.
-
I get your perspective @chuck , the fans who now engage are there mostly for entertainment, people watching, star player watching, beer garden, it’s pro sports after all.
Competitive, winning baseball is not important to alot of people but going to a MLB game is, I get it
-
I just need a reason to turn the TV on in the evening. Without it I'll smoke myself into a coma and spend all evening on here.
