I could write a Tequilla long essay about what fucking assholes these people have been for roughly 3 years.
TLDR version: This guy tried to "fix" the situation by trying to screw everybody in the industry with something he had zero clue how to properly build, and all it's done is piss off every major player and cost US taxpayers billions more, and the headache is only going to get worse over the next year. I don't think the USPS can even reverse course on what he's done.
let’s be honest. The federal mail service can be drastically paired down. What do we even need it for at this point?
certified letters
voter ballots
Personal packages
FedEx/UPS/DHL are relatively good at what they do should just contract with Govt agencies for IRS forms, voter pamphlets/ballots and other official ppwk. People can go to a FedEx store just as easily as they can to a USPS depot for sending packages.
Credit card companies want to offer me a new AMEX? Fine. Send me an email that filters straight to my junk box. I honestly am not sure we even need a federal mail service at this point, let alone one that loses 24b in a single fucking year.
My brother may want to dust off his resume. I can't see this continuing with Trump in office and making an example of the fraud and waste happening at every level.
Even at a minimum you could cut USPS mail delivery to Monday, Wednesday and Friday for half the country and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday for the other half and cut your delivery employees and equipment in half. At least 90% of my mail is SPAM advertising. I get an occasional small Amazon package and some prescription deliveries through USPS. Certainly nothing that can't go through UPS, Fed Ex or even Prime delivery.
FedEx, UPS, and DHL are also struggling to modernize their systems. They have all sat on old shit for too long and are throwing money at the problem and mostly failing. None of this is about anything other than enterprise fulfillment and consolidation and the USPS wanting their cut. They just massively failed at it at the taxpayer's expense.
I'm older than dirt and I have been paying bills online for years. I keep a couple coming in the mail just for museum purposes but I have stamps older than me gathering dust because I still pay online even if the bill is mailed. Every bill I have wants to "go green" and stop mailing. That's the other reason I keep a few coming via the US Mail. Just to fuck with them
I pay Cox and Regressive (Bill joke for Progressive) online, but I still use USPS for credit cards, electric, and a couple other things. I only check my mailbox about four times per week.
It seems like they could definitely go down to 4-5 per week mail or whatever someone said.
The USPS' "new, modern" way of establishing payment on an account and whose rates are being used for a single shipping label, etc is the dumbest fucking workflow I've ever seen and everybody except us was struggling to figure it out all of last year.
They were literally asking companies to hardcode around their own design issues and they have an awful, terrible bug that they still haven't fixed for the actual label itself.
Usps also subsidizes Chinese manufacturing by treating mail from Hong Kong as domestic with domestic rates. An outdated policy Biden was paid to overlook. Needs to be eliminated.
I was unaware of private carriers struggling wrt modernization of processes, so I guess my only counter is that my assumption is that none of those entities lost 24b last year🤷♂️
Yes those other 3 are obviously run like a real business and had the wisdom to back off of all their deadlines when they realized that they were going to have problems when real volume started to get loaded onto them.

Lot of department heads "stepping down"
Like coaches withdrawing from consideration for a job
Also didn't cooperate in the ballots that were trucked in from New York to Pennsylvania in 2020.
Gitmo.

Amazon uses the US Mail at times

Also, they didn't "lose" that money they laundered it.

Most amazon usps are a separate driver anyway
