The basic method of clearing underbrush and standing dead trees as a means of forest management, which also reduces the spread of fire, apparently eludes Ecologist Ern.

Outside of Bend the you see large piles of dead branches piled up and then they are removed in late Spring in the forests near the city.

California used to clear under brush and conduct controlled burns. Demonrats canceled it all.

They do the same same thing in the mountain forests surrounding Bozeman.
