Seahawks/Huskies

Bill mentioned something in a previous thread about the 12’s and overlap with Husky football. It got me thinking…
How much of the UW demographic are Seahawks fans and vice versa. Do most 12’s follow the hawks and pro football only or is there a sizable contingent of fans that follow both?
What is you guys perspective on this?
I’ve always been a big fan of Husky football and a casual observer of Seahawk and pro football, I’m sure the majority could be opposite of that.

I was 121 years old when the Seahawks came. For pro football I was a Niners and Raiders fan
Husky fan from birth
No comparison for me

I didn’t know you were Hispanic

i root for and follow both. College football is more fun to me and I care more about it. Although it's getting less interesting as they keep messing things up to "make it better".
-
Interestingly I know UW alums who follow both but follow the hawks more. Following the hawks was very much more inclusive to a lot of people, including newcomers who didn't feel they needed to pick a side (UW v WSU). That and more recently, well since the huskies started sucking, which coincided with really an impressive run by the Seahawks, the coverage for the hawks has far outpaced the huskies, which wasn't the case when I was younger.
I follow both but Huskies > Seahawks.

Go Bolts!
Foutsy is my neighbor.

NFL is for people who don’t know how to read and just couldn’t get in to NASCAR. They’ve gone and fucked up college football to the point that it is now truck racing. Fox sports knew what we wanted before we did.

I was a Seahawks fan before I was a Huskies fan. Went to games in their inaugural season and witnessed some really weird shit.
Became a Huskies fan only when I went to UW, so Seahawks had a head start. And while I still am a big Seahawks fan, I care far more about UW. I’m able to move on from Seahawks losses minutes after the game.
But I’m still pissed off about that UW loss to Nevada like it was yesterday.

My NFL fandom has never had any loyalty. I liked the Pats when they won their first SB, then hated them except for when they lost to the Giants, who I always hate. I liked the Chargers with Dan Fouts. In most years I end up picking a different team and rooting for them through the playoffs, but pay no attention otherwise.
I have cared about the Seahawks a couple of times, ever. I rooted for the Dave Krieg, Curt Warner, Steve Largent teams but never really cared that much. I watched and cheered when they won the super bowl, and I laughed at them when they blew it.
The UW loyalty will never go away, but how interested and attentive I am about it is in doubt.

My casual observations going to a few NFL games are that the fans are…..different… in a Oregon Ducktard, Ozympic kind of way
-
Seahawks fans are a mix of white trash from SE King County and hipsters (when they're winning) who think it's cool to pay $16 for Rainier tallboys.
-
I’m a Seahawks fan. DO NOT call me a “12.” Big difference.
-
Real Husky fans hate the Seahawks
-
I like not having an NFL team. I can front run with whichever team I like most each year while simultaneously ngaf.

When I was a little kid, I loved the Seahawks, but then Ken Behring tried to move them to Cali in 89, so I realized it was just a company. After that, I stopped watching them for 20+ years, not even watching their Superbowl games.
I noticed that my dad was always more emotionally invested in the UW games. he'd tear up when the Huskies won big games. I've been watching UW since the mid-80s. Everyone in my family went to UW, so we all watch a lot of Husky football. I met Napolean Kaufman at a frat party once, he looked relatively small in person. I met a bunch of 90s players while at UW.
I've gotten back into the Seahawks in the last 5 years though. I live in Vegas and Seattle - back and forth, so I'll probably start watching Raider games in the future. I think I could be a GM for a pro team. Since I watch a lot of college football, I can tell exactly which college players would fit perfectly for the Seahawks or who will have great NFL careers. For example, Jaxon Dart would be a great, "budget" QB for the Seahawks, though he's presently, very immature - he'll go mid to late 3rd round.
UW football is always #1 for me though. I would probably never or rarely ever get a Seahawks game ticket. I would watch most Husky games in person if I could. I am one of the loudest fans in Husky Stadium when I do go. I bark very loud. -
UW…There’s an NFL team in Seattle now?
-
I don't like the attention the Seahawks take away from my Dwags. On to hour 2 of sport talk radio talking about Geno being the guy or not.
-
Spoiler alert: not. :)
-
I was born in the 80s, I’ve always rooted for both teams. I’d say I’m more invested in UW overall tho. Beating Oregon for the Pac12 forever championship > the Hawks winning the Super Bowl.
-
I think it was 1997 when the Seahawks were playing in Husky Stadium. I went to a Seahawks game there and immediately noticed how different the crowd was. Very blue collar
-
my second wife (Diehard Seahawk fan) and I had a fight over football tickets, I told her OK I will get season tickets.
So I got Husky season tickets.
I watch the last 10 minutes of a Seahawk game if I remember, and if it is close, so not often
-
The history of the game is that college football preceded pro and I think is still more ingrained and passionate but not by much any longer.
-
My NFL fandom is very similar. I actually like the Seahawks as a kid and followed them a little more than UW football. Started as a Niners fan when they won the first of the back to back Super Bowls but even then, I was a very casual fan.
I didn’t start to hate the Seahawks until 2007 when I moved back to Seattle and went to a couple games and saw how passive aggressive the fans are.
I haven’t watched a more than a half of an NFL game this year and never pay close attention to the NFL until December. -
Currently I'm a big Chiefs fan
-
I’m gonna guess 90% of Washington males over 60 years old are Niners, Raiders or Rams fans.
That’s who we got on TV during our formative years.
Same with baseball - either Giants or Dodgers. -
John Brodie and Darryl Lamonica
-
Suck it. Roman Gabriel or die!!!!!
(John Brodie retired to Hayden ID -clearly a white supremacist)
-
The last NFL team I kind of had a crush on was the late 90/early 00’s Raiders. It was even better when Nip and Tui joined.
It sounds like most of you feel the same way I do about the Hawks. I wouldn’t lose any sleep at night if they moved to Portland…lol
For those who love football whynotboth.gif I remember a fellow season ticket holder in the 90’s who would go to his local high school game Friday, Huskies on Saturday and Hawks on Sunday. Not bad!

Free pub
It has always been about 50/50
I was more into the Seahawks in the late 80s, because back then, the Huskies were in Race's James must be fired/Freedom Bowl 6-4-1 type year quagmire, and IIRC you might be lucky to see six games on TV. You had to listen to Rondeau. My friend's dad was a UW prof and had season tickets to the '90 season and that got me rabid about the Dawgs. The Seahawks sold out every game, so you could watch all 16 games.
I've been to probably ten Seahawk games from 1985 against the Cheatriots until 2010, and I can confirm there is scary, drunken white trash. It seemed especially bad in the 2000s. I've always been to three Raider games and their fans are even worse.

Roman Gabriel, Jack Snow, Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, Les Josephson, Willie Ellison, Jack Pardee, Wendell Tucker
Gabriel used to play a native on Gilligan’s Island 🏝️

Love my Hawks but it's a healthy relationship with boundaries and space. I don't need to know what she's doing at all times and I don't look at her phone when she's sleeping.
Can't say the same for my Dawgs. This relationship is dysfunctional and toxic with an ever-present fear of abandonment and rejection. Without her, I would die.
