Get the win. Move on. Another thing that sucks is that it seems like it's going to prevent us from ever booking interesting non-conference games again.
I hope we play a home/home vs. Cuog in an Apple Cup every year for the rest of time. I don't see that as a big ask. It's a free win every year and everybody in Washington wins. It's a great thing and we should keep it. The alternative is retarded. Are we scared to get beat? Cuogs can beat us, so what? That might propel us to the playoff after dramatic teaching moments and big changes. You can get in with 2 losses. This might happen on Saturday. Who knows? What's the problem here? This game is hype always. It's Washington's annual game. Western WA and Seattle are chock full of Cuogs. Family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc. Taking that annual fun away would be stupid AF. As a Haitian UW fan, I love eating cats. I vote no on moving on.
What's an interesting non-conference game in the future?
My list is:
Miami
Texas
Oklahoma
Alabama
LSU
Georgia
Auburn
Tennessee
Florida, maybe
I don't really care about FSU or Clemson. We have no history with either of those schools. The rest of the ACC is meh, though I would find a game against Pitt interesting (the centennial of our 1930s Rose Bowl matchups are starting to be not that far away). Cal/Furd?
Which of the Big 12? Utah/Colorado? Fuck the Arizona schools.
A 5 year deal with Cuog while we get used to the new world is fine. It guarantees we always have 1 close road trip (Oregon or WSU) out of our 5 trips per year.
We either don't play Cuog or we play 6 road games if we add a big time non-con.
With the super conferences and expanded playoffs I wonder if interesting non-conference games die and we really just see basically true preseason games with teams playing three cupcakes. It sucks to me because big non-conference games were one of my favorite things about college football.
I'm not into playing lose-lose games in any way shape or form. Including like Boise and BYU. By that I mean games where if you win it's expected and you get nothing for it but if you lose you look bad. It's different than cupcakes games where you 99% of the time should sleepwalk to a win. I'm talking about these programs that can beat you 10-25% of the time. Northern Illinois is a good example.
Playing it in September is unnatural. Maybe it'll turn into a decent CU/CSU or Cyclone/Hawkeye rivalry. Right now, it feels off, and in a move that surprises nobody, they gouged fans for ridiculous amounts of money.
Any AD of a team in a P2 conference that would schedule anything other than 3/4 body bag games in non conference should be fired by their school for incompetence.
Our schedule this year is perfect example. Michigan, SC, Oregon, Iowa, Penn State. You go 3-2 take care of business rest of games you are better than coin flip of getting in 12 team playoff and shoe-in when it goes to 16 an a couple years.
4-1 and tcb your playing in CCG for a chance at a current 1st round bye.
With Pac2 creating varsity version of MWC, along with overall complete apathy by both schools fan bases, the life expectancy of this game is 2 years tops. One game in Pullman 2025, home in 2026 and then this series goes extinct.

i’m fine giving up on it thanks
Fuck that game
Sux that we are signed up for a 5 year window… boring, hate the game, rather play anyone else.
I don’t blame you? guys. We’re Cuog. We? take what we? can get.

run the damn ball then
Is this going to be our only OOC game each year?

But don't play at Lumen ffs.
The only reason to play a home and home with Cuog is to savor the delight of daddy issue coeds in Pullman
Every young dawg should have that opportunity.

the apple cup needs to die

it’s like a whole new world out there, groz
UW should play a team from the new Mtn West every season. It doesn't have to be the cuog.
Nobody cares. The AC was a rivalry game before. Now it's not. It's a big game for WSU still but is nothing to most UW fans.
Check the admission gate totals. They won't lie.

I prefer this time to listening to cougs be insufferable while I'm trying to eat thanksgiving food and chug way too much ABV holiday beers.
That will be replaced by Duckies this year.

Risk not remotely close to reward.
