where does UW get all the money to pay NIL to all the players
UW just paid 2 million NIL for a basketball player.
A modest assumption for 85 football players at an average NIL of $500000 is over 42 millions.

If you think 85 football players are getting half a million each, Kim has some nice ocean front property to sell you in Walla Walla.
I would assume basketball is a lot more dependent on 1-3 stars on your team so you pay a ton for a smaller amount of players. I also have seen a decent amount questioning that figure and NIL figures you see overall.
I would bet last year Penix & Odunze and some others got decent amounts and a large percentage got next to nothing. I know Fabiculanan did an interview a few months ago where he straight up said he pretty much has never gotten any NIL money.
I also think you see way better players in the basketball portal for whatever reason and they're more proven commodities. The guys coming up the ranks jumping up from smaller schools are regularly some of the best at big programs now where in football you see a lot of hyped up transfer who end up just being okay or not major impact. Like the Georgia DT who came to USC last year. Or Perryman who we got in 2022 and was supposedly an FCS 1st team All-American then just straight up could not play at the Pac-12 level.
Tech bros love basketball, college or otherwise. It’s more likely they donate even if they have no affiliation to UW.

Thanks for all the answers. I think Woolley Doog is right:

I now think all the NIL values published in all the website may be inflated. 85 players at an average NIL of $120000 (see website link below) is still over 10 millions. I saw that the WSU quarterback got over a million to transfer. I wondered what is the correct NIL values for the average players.

I would think quarterbacks could be the outlier that you see that gets closer to the inflated numbers you see. You just don't see that many truly valuable players in the portal either, but that could also mean those guys get their values inflated because of scarcity, so who fucking knows?
