http://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/la-sp-usc-football-20140817-story.htmlCoach Sark: "One, 'Am I ready to play in a game?' And two, 'If I'm not, what are those issues I need to get worked on and get fixed here over the next two weeks?'"
Outcome: First, players think they'll ready after only 2 weeks of fall camp and just go through the motions for the rest of camp. The players won't be ready for a full season of football and conditioning. Second, players will realize they're not ready and they need to work on diagnosing plays better, shedding blockers, being in position... you know, the
details. But how does the coaching staff plan to work on it in practice?
Does that sound like something Petersen would say? Would he ask the players uncertain questions like that and let them decide whether they're ready or not? Or what they think their weaknesses are? No. Because Petersen
knows that stuff. He knows whether the players are ready or not and he knows what his players weaknesses are. If this were Petersen, it'd probably be like this:
Coach Pete: 'You guys aren't ready to be playing in a football game in 2 weeks. But we know what you need to do to be ready and we'll continue to work on it on practice.'
Outcome: Petersen knows who's ready (no one) and who isn't (everyone). He knows how to continue to motivate the players and where they need to continue to improve in order to be the best players they can possibly be.
Just another reason to praise PatHadenFS for his benevolent gift to Husky football.
