The real problem is that we aren't taking in the best and the brightest. We are the world's welfare magnet. 60% of immigrants are on welfare and we know that the government does its best to understate the problem. When a school system is spending $20,000 per student on an annual basis an immigrant family would need to pay $60,000 in taxes if they have three kids in school. They don't. You could say that the family isn't on "welfare" (no food stamps, no Section 8 housing, no Medicaid) but they ain't paying $60,000 in taxes going to the school system. Tiny homes in Bend at 600 sq ft are going for over $300,000. Illegal aliens wading across the Rio Grande don't have a 10% down payment for a tiny home. They don't have enough money to rent a standard apartment without government assistance.
