Weirdly, the most primitive tribal impulses are today expressed by means of the latest digital technology. There is a recording of a phone call that a Hamas terrorist made to his parents on October 7. The audio captures a human drama as old as recorded history: a son seeks approval from his parents for his prowess in battle. But there is something deeply twisted about their conversation. “Hi Dad!” the son shouts. “I’m talking to you from [kibbutz] Mefalsim. Open my ‎WhatsApp now, and you’ll see all those killed. Look how many I killed with my own hands! Your son killed Jews! … Dad, I’m talking to you from a Jewish woman’s phone. I killed her, and I killed her husband. I killed ten with my own hands! Dad, ten with my own hands!” The whole time, his father is repeating “Allah hu Akbar!” A little later, the young man says “Mom, your son is a hero!”

Not necessarily the West's monsters. This has been a part of the human condition forever. The problem in the West is that too many of our supposed elites pretend that pacifism and a sticker puts you on the right side of history. It doesn't.

Not necessarily the West's monsters. This has been a part of the human condition forever. The problem in the West is that too many of our supposed elites pretend that pacifism and a sticker puts you on the right side of history. It doesn't.

As I like to say, sometimes you have to pick a side. Has Israel always done exactly the right thing and is beyond reproach? No. Are they a shining light and a bastion of reason and tolerance in a sea of knuckle dragging religious zealots whose thought process is roughly that of Cromagnon man? Yes.

Have I picked a side? W/o a doubt. Were I a younger man with nobody relying on me, I'd sign up and go help them any way I could.

Our founders mentioned them being wholly incompatible with our nation, constitution and people. In those days they called them musselman. Yet here we are!

Might have missed it on the science bit. Much of the West has turned its back on science and now it is as much into feelings as the Muslim world.
