Disappointed? Or about what you expected for this season?
TL;DR? Yes, disappointed. Yes, about what I expected, but probably a little less. Hence, disappointed.
TL;R? Probably a little of both. I didn't expect them to be a playoff team or anything. OTOH, expecting real progress was reasonable. reasonable would have been 9 wins with convincing wins over UVa, Ga Tech and NC State, and being competitive against UNC. Instead, they beat UVa in 2OT, gave a close game to GT, lost going away to NC State and was never really in UNC despite the score. So, yeah, disappointing.
A few good things. Eliminated the chaos when they were in full shit show mode. Ran off the real trouble makers and guys who can't play. Also been in most of their games and haven't seemed to quit. Last year, and in the years with Diaz, that absolutely happened all the time. D is much better and has come up with a few game changers. Predictably he's built an O line and is adding depth, something that hasn't happened down there in many years.
Things he keeps doing:
- hell on QBs. something happens under his watch and they absolutely break. maybe he locks them in a shed on hot days. IDFK.
- critical 3rd and 7 and runs the ball up the middle when it hasn't been there all day. No misdirection. No pass. No RPO. Great.
- clock management. eh, I see a ton of coaches fuck this up. but, still, it would be nice if he didn't. when short on time, O always walks around taking their time. why?
- the bravado and the coach speak. only slightly less annoying than Russell Wilson post game, and that's only because he is at least coherent (Russ isn't).
So, 6-6, I think seat heats up a lot. 7-5 is viewed as flip of last year. Big whoop, but seat is probably not as warm. They've got him for 2 more minimum unless he just really implodes and has a losing season next year.
