Mayorkas' announcement comes as migrant numbers in September broke new records

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is citing an "acute and immediate need" to waive dozens of federal laws in order to build a border wall in south Texas where illegal migration has surged, a sharp contrast to dismissals of the use of such barriers in the early days of the administration.

The agency posted an announcement on the U.S. Federal Register which outlines construction in Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley Sector -- where the administration says there is "high illegal entry." The agency says there have been over 245,000 migrant encounters in the sector this fiscal year.

Mayorkas says he is using his authority provided by Congress to waive 26 federal laws, including the Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and Endangered Species Act.

    All McCarthy had to do was to stick a clear non-negotiable substantive secure the border bill into the continuing resolution and make the dems shut the government down to continue to support open US borders while shipping off billions of unaccountable dollars to the Ukraine. 46 and PGOS supported the America Last dems.     What does "working on" mean? What does keep it in house mean? All McCarthy had to do was keep his promises. He didn't. That's not my fault or Gaetz's fault. McCarthy bet his speakership on the dems. He lost that bet. Go figure. A rational person would use the power of the House to actually get some things done that benefit the American middle class. But trust 46, McCarthy was working on it.
