Enough already. You just joined the Big 10. Your athletes will be traversing the continent on the regular, traveling countless thousands of more miles with an increased carbon footprint. And yet your athletic department continues to beat its chest about "sustainability."

How about a halftime marching band tribute to fossil fuels?

Normally I'd take this to the Tug Tavern. But its pertinent here on the main board.

I think you're missing the point a bit. It's not about the actions that are taken to sustain the environment, be they valid or not. It's the athletic department's constant virtue signaling and bragging about how they're saving the environment that is the hypocrisy.

They’re no longer offering cups. You have to hold your hand open for a pour and shots are given Mazatlan style. Finger food only. No waste. No flyers. No handouts. Tailgating is permitted 30 minutes before kickoff and all must leave immediately. It’s wasteful otherwise.

Agree that trying to market anything sustainable after the B1G news looks ridiculous.

Hopefully the athletic department keeps trying to be as "sustainable" as possible to offset some of the upcoming increased travel.

I'd be curious how much "sustainability" plays into the buying decisions of students etc. Are they not going to attend football games repeatedly if there is not a strong attempt at reducing waste, environmental efficiency, etc?

Weird thing to be upset about. Like @CFetters_Nacho_Lover said, you either have an AD or you don't. In the current environment, it was increase carbon footprint or die, so UW chose to not die. Same as Ghana completely deforesting their country for charcoal when gas prices tripled and they couldn't afford it. Easy to be shortsighted when it's that or starve. Doesn't make the deforestation good.

Reducing energy consumption is a good thing regardless of charter jet fuel consumption that keeps the show going. Even if you're the rolling coal type, it saves the AD money in the long run, and that's good no matter how many hours per day you spend in the Tug.

If you're going to do it anyway, might as well brag about it when your school is located in a place like Seattle.

Seriously I'm all for sustainability when one can actually identify reasonable opportunities. WTF can a football team or athletic program do to be environmentally sustainable in any meaningful way? Are they going to eliminate single use plastics? Make people bring their own refillable drinking vessels? Only play day games (no lights) and eliminate sideline coolers for the players?

I don't see it. It's a faggy buzz word meant to placate people who feed on buzz words and catch phrases and don't watch football anyways. As a tree hugging libtard (nevermind I'm the only non logger in my family and have never had strained relationships over it) I cringe when the AD uses words like that.
