"I have decided I can no longer coach in a conference that treats its players and coaches so unfairly," Don James
Don James called it and the chickens 30 years latter come home to roost. I am genuinely sad to see the PAC 8, Pac 10 and Finally the Pac 12 be eliminated. However, I am enjoying the severe discomfort and embarrassment that upper campus must have felt last Thursday and Friday.Rarely do academics and regents ever face the consequences of their decisions. Watching the announcement presser was like watching a community college library staff get handed a sales quota. Upper campus has been half in on football for over 30 years and we all watched them build a non revenue sport colossus. They had the money and upper campus still made the decisions they did. They had the fn money!!! Years of being half in on football and now they get to eat it. The upper campus was embarrassed by football and did just enough to placate but never fully commit. The calculus was always just do enough but don’t you let the football program become too high profile but we have to make enough to cover non revenue sports. So now comes the reality of being half in competing against a conference that was all in. Don James was right, the conference and the school didn’t give a shit then. The PAC 12 conference never cared enough to get it right. It finally cost them. The best part, Ohio State Football bails the UW non revenue sports out is what this ultimately translates to.
The shock and utter horror that upper campus must feel having to be part of the the collapse of the PAC 12 and being part of the Big 10 now. I absolutely love it. They looked down there snobby Pac 10 noses at the “ greed “ of the big 10 when the Big 10 expanded. Upper campus and the PAC 10 and their arrogance. However the reality is the Big 10 has such disregard for UW the UW doesn’t even get a full share of revenue until the next tv deal. The UW thinks so little of the student athlete especially football players they are now going to put them on a plane to Maryland and New Jersey. Yeah it’s all about the student athlete experience. Balancing class work and practice once again UW shits on its football kids. The pac 12 and UW chose not to care for the guy that pays the bills. And now due to negligence they will get to read the articles about the upcoming decimation of non revenue sports at WSU. How equitable.
Upper campus didn’t care and they get to eat it: Funny part, a ton of Big 10 fans said to me this makes sense St Louis isn’t that far. Because the people anywhere outside of the west coast think the University of Washington is Wash U. Ultimately, Big 10 cared and got it right and The Pac 10 and 12 didn’t. To quote the movie Wall Street” You either get it right or you get eliminated “ Fuck em
