The top 5 songs for both artists are in the same ballpark. Prince actually wrote and composed all the music which makes me give him the nod compared to MJ. Prince has more good songs than MJ top to bottom.
I love MJ. I went down a rabbit hole on Thriller a few years back and my god it's incredible. Quincy Jones has to be up there on the list of "best producers" in modern music.
Since this is HH we're talking about on field performance and MJ is a legend amongst legends. Off the field obviously Prince couldn't have a larger advantage but on field MJ wins it rather easily. And I have mad respect for Prince's talent and especially the ping pong and streetball skills.
Prince might have been more talented but MJ was the superior performer with the superior playlist, and ultimately that's what matters here.
The first time I heard Off the Wall my rock albums started gathering dust. Spent the 80s on dance and funk
No one is disputing the brilliance of MJ on Off the Wall or Thriller (although I think Bad was a bit of a letdown) or the commercial success.
My contention is that if you put Prince's complete anthology next to MJ's, Prince's overall body of work is superior. MJ had 2 albums in the 80's. Prince had 9. He was just more prolific.

Prince could have stopped after Purple Rain and I would've still voted for him without a second thought.

Janet Reno
Simple fact
One fucked up dude but still
MJ has one all timer LP and a couple good ones.
But at the end of the day his greatness is overblown. HOF talent - YES. Mt Rushmore - NO.
Advantage: Prince
