Firing Rick in June changed everything for UW
Not that he would have been great but it set the Gilby Ty disaster in motion
Consider that Babs did make what looked like a home run hire. Win a Rose Bowl then pop off
If she fired him after a failure in 03 she could go big game hunting again -
Also destroyed dawgman and gave birth to half brains eventually so not all bad

- you can blame Scott, that's easy
- blame the people that enabled him. The presidents ... they wrote their own demise. -

I'm far from a fan of Sark ...dnc said:

Who would UW have gotten after 2007 that they couldn't get in 2008?dnc said:
It drastically altered the pool we could realistically hire from.Tequilla said:
You're talking 2003/2004 to 2007 at that point ... 2008 didn't put the program in substantially more of a hole than it already wasAtomicDawg said:
This. We could have had a top tier coach if we we hired correctly after Rick or even one year of gilby. Instead we killed the program and had to take a chance on sark.DerekJohnson said:
We sacrificed so much more than one year.Tequilla said:It's apples and oranges
The state of the P12 is completely on the University President's that not only hired Backhand Larry AND enabled him for so many years when it was so painfully obvious that he was in over his head
The comparison to Emmert and Tyrone is different in this respect ... Emmert sacrificed 2008 to placate the segment of the population and stakeholders that enabled Tyrone ... everybody knew that Tyrone was on an island in 2008 and it would have never have worked. It's a big difference to sacrifice 1 year for multiple years like the P12 did with Larry Scott.
For as much as I have disdain for Sark ... being able to pull in a coordinator from a top program like USC and immediately being able to start the shift back in recruiting positioned UW for the success that they had under Pete.
UW covered up a lot of the Sark stuff behind the scenes instead of doing anything about it ...
I just don't buy that the hiring pool was substantially different after 2007 and 2008 ...
Here's the thing about Petersen, it's not just that he wouldn't listen to UW then ... he wasn't listening to anybody then -
