I was a kid and my folks took us to SD. We were in Deadwood and all the other tourista spots - really thought that was the Wild West. Went back last summer and it is just a tourist trap now, Mt Rushmore sucked (the mountain itself was cool) but everything they sold was all made in China. did buy some whiskey from the distillery. it is OK. nothing special.
On my move to Texas this past Summer, I drove to Deadwood and Mt Rushmore. Deadwood is very touristy, but I just drive though to say I have seen it. And I am down with doing a touristy thing once in my life, but two times is pushing it. Mt Rushmore was empty when I went as it was sprinkling and i got there when it first opened in the morning. At one time there were just three people on the plaza. I said to the other two people, "we have the whole place to ourselves. Enjoy the moment while it lasts"
