Actually at Legion Field in Birmingham. I was there

That USM defense was hell on wheels ... a bunch of those guys ended up in the NFL.

Tide started the season ranked 3rd and finished 3-8 under Mike Dubose

USM motto used to be “Anyone, Anywhere and Anytime!”

They meant it and with Jeff Bower as HC, could at anyonetime, could beat anyone back in the 90’s… For a small college they were good. Actually got good players(think some may still be playing in the league) and South Pine Belt of MS is a hotbed of good athletes. All over. Excellent. And he could get em. (Brett Farve out of Kiln, MS(gulf coast) amongst others. The LB and DB out of pine belt area out of Bassfield, Jeff Davis County, …the Walter Payton’s out of Colombia, the Mount Olive Native, Steve McNair, …shit. The amount are endless here.

Anyway, Jeff Bower did a lot with a little at some point it wasn’t good enough for the powers at be for the Golden Eagles. And they’ve pretty much suffered every since they decided to try and do better.. This is the home of Ray Guy. I actually went to a football camp back in the day when he was there at Southern MS in Hattiesburg.

Drove past the USM stadium on the way to visit Ben and Erin a couple years ago. Big ass facility out in the middle of fucking nowhere Hattiesburg.

    Laurel > Hattiesburg.

    Laurel > Hattiesburg.

USM and the campus/stadium is right off HWY 49, Hardy St and 4th St, not “downtown” but pretty much the middle of Burg.

Wrong on the Laurel reference. Laurel has some great venues, history and old, nostalgic buildings and good restaurants downtown. However, Laurel doesn’t have the size, amount of restaurants/shopping/entertainment/medical/ etc that Burg enjoys, and Burg has more historical sights, great historical buildings made into restaurants/pubs/entertainment in “downtown” Hattiesburg, not to mention it being a P5 college town. Something going on almost every weekend in Hattiesburg: beer fest, hub fest, ball games, crawfish fest, multipurpose center events, downtown music fests, etc. They call Hattiesburg “The Hub” for a reason.

Hardy Street and trafficking around town can suck, as well as some influx of Katrina rejects out of south LA that flooded into town back in 2005 that knocked Burg down a notch or two, however most are slowly filtering back out and back down to New Orleans area….but Folks come from Laurel to do more in Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg didn’t get a dime. There are Targets and Best Buys and Chili’s in CDA

    Laurel still > Hattiesburg
