I preferred the NHL of the 80's. You had the end of a dynasty (Islanders) and the beginning of a new dynasty (Oilers) You had lost of goals You had defensemen scoring goals (Paul Coffey) You had great defense (Robinson/Coffey/Bourque/Chelios/Potvin) You had guys who could fight (Probert/Kocur/McRae/Brown/Semenko/Kordic) You had brawls You had guys who didn't wear helmets
Now. Scoring almost like the 80s (which I wasn’t alive for) with added athleticism and 2 line passes allowed. The product is better now than it’s ever been despite the commissioner being a dumbass who doesn’t understand marketing 101. I do miss the enforcers and think the rats need to be corralled, but you really can’t argue that the overall skill level is better now. Having the USSR players in the 80s would have changed things.
late 2000's, early 2010's had great Red Wings, Sharks, Blackhawks going at it and then up and coming Pittsburgh finally broke through. Capitals were entertaining with Ovechkin trying to carry them.
2011 Boston Vancouver Stanley Cup is easily my favorite series ever. I would like Eugene to look like downtown Vancouver after that game 7.
