Vancouver PD did a weekend anti-shoplifting blitz at two local department stores near us. Busted 39 thieves over 2 days. My wife and daughter watched a lady try to walk out of the local Target with a cart full of merch. When she was stopped she claimed she didn't even realize she was going out the door. Didn't work.

Any medium or big sized corporation will have a lame, hands off policy. Usually employees are supposed to watch and provide, "great" i.e. close customer service. If the employees and mangement do it right, they'll get the message and leave, but it's not like that's possible 100% of the time. I've worked in retail and I've seen employees get physical with thieves and crackheads. It's not like 99.9% of them are going to sue anyway.

A lot of my local stores have shifted to the carts that lock up as someone is approaching the door. I've witnessed someone frantically dragging the cart as best as they could to a shitty car waiting for them. Now the store has someone sitting at the exit at all tims and I have seen a lot less shitting people as a result.

I got one of those carts and after paying for all items it locked up at the door and my inner Karen was not pleased
