Probably not a big deal now but in the shared culture era there was always a disconnect between the critic and consumer. The more popular a band or movie the more the critics turned up their nose
That band is too commercial - meaning they sold millions of albums and made millions of dollars
I'd want to be in that band. I'll take the shitty review

It's oft been said that the Beatles were perhaps the only artist(s) in any medium who were simultaneously the most popular and the best (in the eyes of the critics).

People like different things. Big deal. It’s his OPINION. And he made a good career of writing his OPINIONS about film before his face melted and he died.
And he loved many commercially successful movies too.
Imagine if you averaged seeing 300 movies a year. You *might* have a different top 10 than the average joe that sees one or two a month.

Because I remember stupid, random things from decades ago, I thought I knew his top five from memory. I saw him and the other guy do rundowns of their top 5 or ten at some point. I could swear that they both had The Right Stuff on their lists. I thought that was #1 but maybe not. I do know for sure that Raging Bull, Casablanca, and Citizen were on it.
Whatever. My favorites change minute to minute and few of them make any lists.
