Russia Says It Put Down Major Ukrainian Offensive Hours After It Began

    BY TYLER DURDEN

Did Ukraine forces just attempt to kick off their much anticipated major counteroffensive, only to have it put down immediately after it began?

That's what the Russian Defense Ministry (MoD) suggested early Monday in announcing that Ukraine began a "large-scale offensive" in mounting attacks along five sections of the frontlines in the eastern Donbas region. But Russia said it thwarted the major attack and that some 250 Ukrainian troops were killed, which included Ukraine sending six mechanized and two tank battalions to Russian-controlled southern Donetsk.

"On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a large-scale offensive in five sectors of the front in the South Donetsk direction," the MoD statement began. "The enemy has failed to reach its goals and was unsuccessful."

It added that in total the attacking forces lost six tanks, three infantry vehicles, and 21 armored vehicles in what would mark a significant defeat if confirmed. "The enemy’s goal was to breach our defenses in what they assumed was the most vulnerable section of the frontline," the Russian military statement continued.

"During the day, the occupiers made 23 attacks, but all of them were repulsed by units of the defense forces," the MoD continued, in reference to attacks also along front lines of Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.

The ministry further specified that Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov "was at one of the forward command posts" at the time of the thwarted attacks.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky just days ago said that his forces stand 'ready' to launch a counteroffensive, he made not mention of the alleged assault Sunday night when he gave his nightly video address.

BBC has remained very skeptical of the Russian military narrative, and yet Kiev has admitted some degree of "offensive actions" Sunday into Monday:

But on Monday Ukraine issued a statement denouncing Russian 'lies' and propaganda that aims to demoralize and mislead the Ukrainian public, but without directly referencing the specific Kremlin claims of a thwarted counteroffensive. According to Reuters:

The commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said on Monday that Ukrainian forces continued "moving forward" near the long-contested city of Bakhmut in northern Donetsk. He made no comment on the counter-offensive.

The daily report from Ukraine's General Staff said only that there were 29 combat clashes in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's Centre for Strategic Communications did not address the Russian statement directly but said, without providing evidence, that Russia would seek to spread lies.

"To demoralize Ukrainians and mislead the community (including their own population), Russian propagandists will spread false information about the counteroffensive, its directions, and the losses of the Ukrainian army," it said.

Given the vague response from the Ukrainian side in the face of significant Russian claims which are currently grabbing world headlines, this for many observers is going to give credence to the Kremlin statements.

A real offensive would be the massing of tens of thousands of troops and military equipment behind the line of battle. Sort of like the Russians did last year. The Russians will be dug in and unless the Ukrainians can outflank them and then move with speed it will be more like the Somme than the Battle of France.

Journalists Are Asking Ukrainian Soldiers To Hide Their Nazi Patches, NYT Admits

    BY TYLER DURDEN
    TUESDAY, JUN 06, 2023 - 03:30 AM
The New York Times has been forced to very, very belatedly deal with something which had long been obvious and known to many independent analysts and media outlets, but which has been carefully shielded from the mainstream masses in the West for obvious reasons.

The surprising Monday Times headline said that "Nazi Symbols on Ukraine’s Front Lines Highlight Thorny Issues of History." This acknowledgement comes after literally years of primarily indy journalists and geopolitical commentators pointing out that yes indeed... Ukraine's military and paramilitary groups, especially those operating in the east since at least 2014, have a serious Nazi ideology problem. This has been exhaustively documented, again, going back years. But the report, which merely tries to downplay it as a "thorny issue" of Ukraine's "unique" "History" - suggests that the real problem for Western PR is fundamentally that it's being displayed so openly. Ukrainian troops are being asked to cover those Nazi symbols please!--as Matt Taibbi sarcastically quipped in commenting on the report.

The authors of the NYT report begin by expressing frustration over the optics of Nazi symbols being displayed so proudly on many Ukrainian soldiers' uniforms. Suggesting that many journalistic photographs which have in some cases been featured in newspapers and media outlets worldwide (typically coupled with generally positive articles on Ukraine's military) are merely 'unfortunate' or misleading, the NYT report says, "In each photograph, Ukrainians in uniform wore patches featuring symbols that were made notorious by Nazi Germany and have since become part of the iconography of far-right hate groups."

The report admits this has led to controversy wherein news rooms actually must delete some photos of Ukrainian soldiers and militants. "The photographs, and their deletions, highlight the Ukrainian military’s complicated relationship with Nazi imagery, a relationship forged under both Soviet and German occupation during World War II," continues the report.

So it's merely "thorny" and "complicated" we are told.

Russians blowing up their stuff? Or is someone else and lying about it? You decide. Just more infrastructure to be rebuilt with 10% to the Big and Little Guy.

Dam in Russia-Occupied Ukraine Blown Up, Flooding Russian Territory; CIA Leaks a New "Theory:" Gee, Maybe the Russians Didn't Blow Up Their Own Pipeline. It Must Have Been the Ukraine All Along.
    —Ace
Biden is going to blow this country up, and the Laptop Class will applaud the millions killed. Less carbon dioxide, you know.

And think about all the Rethuglikkan MAGAts who'll be killed in a US-Russia nuclear exchange!

A dam in occupied Ukraine territory was blown up. Ukraine's president says the Russians blew it up themselves. Russia says the Urkainians did it.

Is there any reason Ukraine would have for blowing it up? Well, their counter-offensive to drive Russia out of occupied parts of Ukraine failed, so they'd have an interest in drowning the region, both to inflict pain on Russia, and impede the movements of Russian troops through Ukraine.

    Zero Hedge:

A day after Ukraine's much-heralded counter-offensive appears to have failed, almost before it had even begun, a major dam in the Russian-occupied region of Kherson is suddenly bombed, prompting mass evacuations as floods spread across the region.
In fact, Ukraine previously wargamed demolishing the dam:

First the Russians blew up their own pipeline, now they're blowing up their own dams. (Or dams in the regions they control.) Is there no end to their sinister machinations?

Nazi's are in Ukraine. Know why? Ukrainians hate the Russians and rightfully so since they killed 8 million Ukrainians and the Nazi's probably treated them better and in fact cheered them when the Germans rolled in and forced the Russians out. So why wouldn't they like being Nazi's? You can look that up.

Russians hate Nazi's since they invaded and killed millions, pillaged and raped their way as they went.
