Had some free time pop up on the calendar over the long weekend and have put together the plans for an impromptu golf trip this coming weekend
Going up through Idaho into Eastern BC and up into western Alberta before coming back down through Montana and then back home
Courses that I'm looking at playing on this trip:
Idaho Club Eagle Ranch Copper Point Greywolf Fairmont Banff Springs Silvertip Stewart Creek Wildstone Shadow Mountain Wilderness Club Circling Raven
Was going to head up to play Fairmont Jasper Park but I've heard that the winter was rough up there and the course conditions are supposedly very very iffy. Almost said fuck it because the drive up there is supposedly one of the best drives you can take in the world but figured I'd save that for some other time when the weather/conditions from the winter was a little better
And before you get your panties in a wad there peter puffer @YellowSnow about how I haven't come down and played golf with you yet this year ... it's still on my radar to try to knock out at some point this summer

Just saw some pics on the socials of some Spokane chaps playing at Greywolf in Alberta. These guys are BIG hitters. Have to think the ball sails a mile at altitude.
I play golf in Colorado every couple of years … the ball travels a long way at altitude for sure
I used to make quad riding trips to St Anthony Dunes near Rexburg with my family. I mainly tagged along to play golf while they all went out and got hurt riding 1000' tall sand dunes. Played multiple courses at or above 5000' and can confirm. Golf in the high desert is fun. For me at the time the difference was about two clubs and maybe 25-30 yards of total driver distance.

I hit a 9 degree driver in part because I used to hit a really high fade with a more lofted driver ... now I tend to hit it probably lower than I should (will get tested whenever I get my next clubs) so I don't get quite as much carry in elevation with the driver as the usual 10% would suggest
On the other hand, I tend to hit my irons fairly high and find that you can get a lot of carry with the higher lofted clubs as the ball stays in the air forever
What I find most playing in elevation is because you're playing in mostly mountain terrain that you have to pay close attention to the greens and where to miss as at least one side typically has a nasty fall off area. Playing a half a club short is almost always better in these environments than a half club long.
Yep watched it. I rooted for her because I'm a pig and she was the best looking woman in contention. Has to be some reason to pick a favorite when you don't know any of the contenders.

The tour has a sex appeal problem for sure. The Korda sisters are a mess at the moment. I personally like Danielle Kang, but she's not doing shit lately either. And where are the hot Euros?????

Sounds fantastic
It was ... I'll have a write-up and some pictures in the relatively near future

I watched because it was Pebble and the winner got 2 million. Not the choke factor I was looking for though. These days Pebble is better suited to Women anyway. They can play it how it was designed
There have been hot women over the years. There are hot Koreans but they weren't in contention. Rose Zahng needs to show more skin
I hit record when the leaders teed off then watched most of in the late afternoon. Even the men's game has ebbs and flows of interest depending on who is on top

I agree that Pebble isn't great for the men anymore. It's sad that we have it every 5 years on a go forward basis. Pebble desperately needs a renovation (green expansion mainly), but it'll probably never get one because it would cost them way too many retail rounds and why would they when they've got US Open's on the books out through 2050.

Why does Pebble need green expansion? If anything that’s one of its primary defenses against the men
It’s a course that gets torn up by the pros when it’s soft in February and played as a resort course
It’s a course that is still plenty difficult when they narrow the fairways, grow the rough, and make the greens play super firm and fast. When you add wind into that setup then par becomes a very good score

The greens have gotten smaller and smaller over the years. Expand them and you could have some more pinnable areas which would put a premium on actually driving it to the correct side of the fairway. There's basically no strategy to playing Pebble anymore.
