1978 champion? Hugh Millen must enjoy his 1984 championship ring.

USC beat Bama at Bama. Both ended with one loss

    Split championship in the polls

An amazing player. Yow. In those days, USC had an impressive streak of GREAT tailbacks.

A friend of mine calls me up prior to the 1977 Rose Bowl and offered to include me as his +1 at the Fridgedaire dealers New Years Eve sales award winners celebration party in Pasadena which included airfare from Seattle, staying at the same hotel as the Wolverines, and great tickets to the game. Wow, it was mandatory to attend the party and what a dull party as I recall ~ refrigerator sales personnel in attendance ranked down there close to the bottom personality wise [nicest people in the world but dull] so we each drank like 10 gin and tonics. I needed a massive bloody mary in the morning to nurse a world class hangover.

The game was a tough defensive struggle and USC wasn't getting anywhere offensively VS Michigan's stellar defensive front when Heisman Trophy runner-up Ricky Bell was carried off the field ~ and in comes USC's freshman backup [who the hell is Charles White? ] who winds up with 122 electric yards and a touchdown to win the game ~ welcome to the show.

USC won a natty when my old man was at UW. Somehow they achieved this in spite of losing to @BennyBeaver 0-3 at Parker Stadium.

My dad claims that Jim Owens used to get out a hose to mud bog the grass at Husky Stadium to slow down the Juice.
That was the rumour ~ it was commonly believed that the field crew was prepping the field for the occasional gloomy and sometimes rainy november games vs the Trojans [in those days, we always played USC the second to the last game of the season, followed by the game with the Cougs] ~ something that they complained bitterly about.

That was a great game.. we all expected it to be a tough game and as the game went on and the dawgs were literally running them off the field, everyone and especially the Trojans understood how just how good this team really was…

Wasn’t Marcus “Driftwood” Allen the blocking back for a year behind White?
