What I'm hearing re: Bergdahl...
this is just what I'm hearing.
He went full on Ayn Rand and left his post in John Galt-style.
The ultimate libertarian, Mr. Bergdahl.

“I will serve no bandit, nor lair, for i know John Galt, and understand . . .” Bergdahl wrote. “This life is too short to serve those who compromise value, and its ethics. i am done compromising.”
Three days later, Bergdahl walked off his post.
WTF is wrong with this Administration and ChuckHagelFS?
Again...just what I'm hearing.
Easier to get the guy back and then drop a bomb on the guys they let go than it is to explain letting a soldier, even a deserter, get executed.
Moving on, this mentality may win (buy) some votes some of the time but I dearly hope that voters finally punish anyone who peddles that belief system in the fall.
Bleeding Hearts ultimately end up bleeding others. 5 Taliban are back on Muslim soil...and what proof is there of his pending execution? Those guys have American blood on their hands yet Obama and "Senior Members" of the Administration spin, distract, and obfuscate from damaging blunder to damaging blunder.
(1) If a member deserted, but voluntarily returned to military control: Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 2 years.
(2) If the member deserted and the desertion was terminated by apprehension: Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 3 years.
(3) If the member deserted with the intent to avoid hazardous duty or to shirk important service (and example of this would be a member ordered to deploy to Iraq and then deserts to avoid the deployment): Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 5 years.
(4) If the member deserts during time of war: Death or such other punishment (such as life in prison) as a court-martial may direct.
As a guy who put feet in boots which then walked in Afghanistan, I'm going to trust the timeline reports I've seen. According to a report, those 6 deaths didn't occur until 2 months after Bergdalh walked off. Did the unit keep looking for him as part of other operations during which those 6 were killed? Yeah, probably but would the unit have conducted those ops if Bergdahl hadn't deserted? It's a tenuous line to draw between Bergdahls act of cowardice and desertion and their deaths.
