They still need some massive offensive upgrades and the reality is that you know things are going right right now since Erasimo gave up 9 base runners in 4.2 innings today and got away without giving up a run.
One guy that I'd like to see them possibly target is Matt Adams from St. Louis when he gets back healthy. He'd be a massive upgrade over Smoak at first base with the stick and given the fact that St. Louis needs to find a way to get their young OFers into the lineup and it puts Craig back at 1B (which helps out their OF defense), they might be able to get Adams as a buy low type of option. -
I agree. This team still isn't doing shit this season but it isn't as dreck as it has been in the past. If this team wouldn't have been such pussies and given Nelson Cruz the blank check like they should have I actually could see something happening.Tequilla said:They still need some massive offensive upgrades and the reality is that you know things are going right right now since Erasimo gave up 9 base runners in 4.2 innings today and got away without giving up a run.

We will see by the trade deadline if they are serious about making a playoff push or not. They need to get Billy Butler (having a bad year so far but his track record is decent) or some other power bat in the lineup to protect Cano.
BTW Cano has been lights out yet the Mooronoors are still complaining about him only having 1 home run. How about complaining about the 4-9 batters who pretty much go 0 for whatever every game? -
matt adams is one good name.
Another few I'd like to see them target are
Josh Willingham
Billy Butler
Marlon Byrd
James Loney
this is still a 500 ball club, maybe a tad better like 83 wins but still not great. It will come down to if ownership is willing to cut out some cash and add a bat. And we already know how that'll end up.
Another key is getting walker, paxton, or both healthy.
I wanted jack z gone 2 years ago, it's gonna take a lot for him to earn my trust back. Maybe a 90 win season at the very least, even then I'll be skeptical -
At this point it's about hoping walker/paxton will stay healthy. I'm not gonna hold my breath though
-
Paxton just went on the 60 day DL. When asked if Walker would need 1 more rehab start at AAA McClendon said "if not more".dhdawg said:At this point it's about hoping walker/paxton will stay healthy. I'm not gonna hold my breath though
Don't bank on either making a big impact this season. We will just hear about how good we will be once they are here like the previous 2 seasons.
Lather, Rinse, Repeat. -
they put him on the 60 day just to open up a roster spot. It doesn't mean he's going to be on the DL another 60 days.
My worry is he'll just get hurt again -
He will, so will Walker.

@SvenThorsen's silence speaks volumes.

I am pro Marinoor, but anti Zdurienciekkkekek

Also for all the haters on the board, Hot Mariners talk >>> offseason pressing olympics.
-
Michael Cuddyer is also a free agent after this year - would bring in a nice right handed bat.
What's impressive is that they are doing this without Saunders in the lineup ...
One big problem that they have is that almost all of their regular players are lefty bats: Cano, Miller, Seager, Ackley, Saunders, and Jones
They need to finally be willing to cut bait with Smoak. IF Hart ever comes back, you need to put him lower in the order and not in a spot where he's supposed to carry everybody.
As for Cano, homers are overrated. What you pay the man money for is getting big hits in big spots like he did today. -
Check this shit out. -
Road Warriors!
FIP, FWAR?
WTF is that for us non baseball fans? -
FIP, fielding independent pitching, measures the performance of a pitcher outside of luck relating to fielding or average on balls in play. Sometimes balls in play fall in for hits, and sometimes they're caught. Sort of a better ERA stat, lower is better.
fWAR is just a variation on wins above replacement, where in this case Felix has been worth about as much as the rest of the staff combined. -

Holy shit that is some great stuff. His fip is 1.92 in the American League. That is fucking unheard of

Wait the captain metrics guy doesn't know these basic metric stats for baseball?HeretoBeatmyChest said:Road Warriors!

I'm floored. -
I like to compare full season stats to stats from 1/3 of a season, that's what I like to do.

Moogs gotta moog though.TheGlove said:I like to compare full season stats to stats from 1/3 of a season, that's what I like to do.

well duh, but I don't care if it's over 2 months or 5 seasons. A 1.92 fip is incredible, especially in the American LeagueTheGlove said:I like to compare full season stats to stats from 1/3 of a season, that's what I like to do.

If Mooging over Felix is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Welcome to last month, but yeah, it's surprising.He_Needs_More_Time said:

Cano only has 1 HR???? as of your press time???
Moorinoors, Mariner's and Drunkin Seaman fans SHOULD be pissed if true. You can't be happy about a consistent 25-35 HR guy that you just paid $225MM to being on pace for like 6HR's on the Season.
No matter how good of a glue guy that he may be. -
he's on pace for like 8 or something.
He's never been a home run hitter, he's a line drive hitter and those HR numbers are inflated by the short porch. I wasn't a fan of the signing when it was made however I have no problem with what he's doing now.
.300 hitters are becoming a rare commodity, let alone .330 hitters -
.330 without any power or speed isn't worth 24 million. Cano is a great player, but he needs to go on a run where he hits some HR's. .300-.320 with 15-20 HR's should be expected. He has time to get there though.

I respectfully disagree. Maybe 2-3 years ago yes but hitting is so down right now.RoadDawg55 said:.330 without any power or speed isn't worth 24 million. and he has stolen 4 bases, so it isn't like he has no speed
-
You are probably right. Offense is down and .330 is a great average. I think he will start hitting some HR's anyways. He's hitting .330 so he's hitting the ball well. He will have a month where he hits 5-6 HR's. You are right that he hit 25-30 because he played in New York, but he should be able to hit 15 HR's. I don't think he's going to start hitting 5 a year now when you look at his past numbers.dhdawg said:
